6th WR Poll
I expect this to be a three horse race between West, Gurley and Nobody, but who would you take and why?
I'm taking Gurley for his rare target radius and punt rushing, knowing full well that West is the better player today.
EDIT: Tried to take Antonio Robinson (released) off the poll, and it reset everything. Lame sauce.

I think Gurley makes it as the 6th.

Re: 6th WR Poll
Gurley, for jump balls, punt blocks, and general athaleticism. If he can learn how to get better separation off the line he could be good. I'd like to keep Borel on the practice squad though. He looks like he has punt return skills and the ability to make people miss out of the slot, just needs more time at WR. West is a solid #4WR and I'd be all for keeping him but we seem to have a logjam at #2&3WR so thanks for playing, here's your card.

Re: 6th WR Poll
If any of our WRs went down, West could probably step in and have Rodgers' confidence. But I chose Gurley because his upside at WR, ridiculous length and the fact that if he's active he's probably contributing on special teams.

Gurley. It would certainly be nice to have another special teams ace on our team.

Re: 6th WR Poll
if 2, wr's get injured
would we bring up and use a wr from the practice squad ?
or would we just use 2 te's, with finley doing more wr things ?
so, i guess the question is, quarless > practice squad wr

Re: 6th WR Poll
I'm sure we will have a WR on the PS. The question is who. Anyone we cut can go to any other team's PS. Although it would be dumb to leave Green Bay. Learn from the best to be the best.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Is Gurely actually good at special teams, or just an athletic freak that blocks punts. I'm afraid he is a Danny G who makes some great blocks, but can't do anything else.

If all he does is block 3-4 punts during the course of a season he'll still be more valuable than a #6 WR who will probably catch 5 passes all year.

Re: 6th WR Poll
I voted to keep 5. Seems dumb to me to keep someone on the roster because they blocked some kicks in training camp. I could care less if they ever rush the punter. Seems half the time a punt gets blocked, you keep the other team's drive alive by running into the punter.
Do it for Chuck

He gives a long WR target as well, something we really don't have (discounting Finley) among the WR's. If they do keep him, it's not just because he blocked a few punts.
In general, I somewhat agree with only keeping 5 WR looking at it in a vacuum. Primarily because Finley will always be on the field, so at most you're going to be playing 4 WR during a snap. That said, I'd rather overload a position on a guy like Gurley than say Crabtree or Quinn Johnson, if that is what it comes down to.

Re: 6th WR Poll
Gurley has shown some good hands and the ability to get open (decent route runner right now, IMO) even though he still can put in a lot of work on his body along with learning better techniques. He came out as a RS sophomore, so he's still extremely young. I hadn't looked at his combine stats in a long time, but he ran a 4.53 which isn't bad given his size.
I think it could be hard to stash Gurley on the PS given his youth and his upside. Some garbage team would likely put him at the end of their roster and basically give him a redshirt season in terms of PT at WR. That's basically what we'd be doing with him if he made our team since he'd realistically be our #7 WR since Finley plays so much WR. I don't think we'd be able to have him active most weeks even if he is a good ST player.
Hopefully we can stash him on the PS. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I should have clarified and said I think his high number of blocks is a result of training camp. My point was I doubt he even blocks one this year since teams will gel and he won't be rushing against a guy who was thrown in on special teams randomly in camp. Can he hold his weight on the other parts of special teams? Is he a good blocker, tackler, scheme player?

I get what you're saying, but if it was that easy to just block five punts against random training camp scrubs wouldn't everybody be doing it? To the best of my recollection I can't remember anybody doing something like this, even during training camp, so it can't be all that easy.

Young in terms of football experience, yes, but between the RS year and a prep school year, he'll be 24 in November.

Wow. I didn't realize that. I should have checked his age.

I've liked enough of what I've seen from Chastin to give him the vote.
