They asked Shields to lineup and cover him without any film study of the Colts plays and without playing their complicated schemes. Shields gave up a couple hooks and and out (or vice versa).

I think Shields will have a great year. There is no reason to think he is a flash in the pan type player. I don't even understand the logic behind the argument that he could badly regress from last season when he played like a solid #2 CB. He's exactly the type of player that has remarkable upside because he is so new to the position and he has so much more he can learn about the technical aspect of playing CB.

One could argue that offenses weren't prepared for Shields. He was an UDFA and there wasn;t much tape on him. Now QBs will respect him as much as GB fans do. Not saying he will have a down year, but he could've been helped last year by keeping people off guard.

He played a ton of snaps from game #1 on. NFL teams see new nickel and dime CBs every year, and target them specifically. Since Woodson always plays in the slot when we are in our nickel or dime, Shields spent a ton of time outside against top flight WRs. We also played nickel 75% of the time, so he was basically a starter.

I get what you are saying, but I'm sure teams scouted him and game planned for him in the same way they would a rookie CB taken in the first our second round who was in a similar position in terms of PT. He played a ton in the preseason, and then he played a ton in the first several games (including basically the entire game week 1 against Philly). I doubt NFL teams game plan based on college footage.

Despite playing with two top notch CBs, Shields held up remarkably well. A lot of teams didn't even target him that much because he was so good at shadowing his man, plus I'm sure they saw very early that he has good ball skills.

If we'd somehow had the 15th pick and had taken Shields, I would have given TT an A+ for the pick.
