new Lakers tv deal - question

Post#1 » by b shaw20 » Sun Aug 28, 2011 4:17 am

need clarification please.

Despite the possibility of only half or no season this year, I need to make a decision on which cable provider I choose.

I used to have direct tv but after I moved, switched to comcast to get nbapass. I've had issues with comcast recently and I want to kill service with them. But since direct tv is not an option where I live now, I may be held hostage by the nbapass agreement which in Miami only comcast has.

I looked at ATT uverse and they have fox sports west, but since the Time Warner deal will be in effect does that mean no more games on fox sports west? (kcal) Does anyone know where besides nbapass, Time Warner cable and Comcast one can watch Laker games?

Need to make a decision and I am sure one of you can help me out.

My understanding of it is that Time Warner is still bidding out the lakers to other providers. We dont know who's gonna carry them besides Time Warner. If I was guessing I would say all the major providers will carry the lakers. Its just a matter of what package deal will your carrier put them in. In other words Direct tv may put the lakers in a premium package which means you have to spend more money to to view the games. Not sure if this helps.

thx worthy, it gives me hope but I in the past providers like comcast required you to get the nbapass. but i hope that crap will change. I'd love to see pre game and post game stuff the locals enjoy.

Will call TW and see what deal is.... thx again.

What's going to happen here b shaw, is that TWC will basically create a channel that will broadcast the games. They will carry the games that aren't nationally broadcast games. In a nutshell TWC will throw the charge back to Dish, Direct, Verizon and AT&T and others to carry the games. This is how the deal is so lucrative for the Lakers. And I don't know if you know but TWC and Comcast merged some years ago when they bought out Adelphia. So if you have Comcast you're good...no need to switch.

thx for the heads up Deep. With Comcast, I have to get the nbapass which I've done the last 5 yrs. Their service as of last year or so has tanked and I want to switch to another cable provider with good internet service.

It sounds like with AT&T I'm good to go since they have Fox Sports West....now the only thing I need is an NBA season.

Lakers on only one cable channel and not all the others, wow that would be the most stupid move ever. Maybe for the Clippers, but the Lakers are a must see and the way to make that big money is to shop it out to others and have them pay Time W. Makes sense, but I hope we still should get games on KCAL.
