Kaman to play for Germany this summer

Post#1 » by Det the Threat » Fri Jul 22, 2011 12:46 pm

Und der NBA-Champion und Finals-MVP bringt auch noch Center Chris Kaman von den Los Angeles Clippers mit.

It says that Nowitzki has decided to play for Germany and will bring Kaman with him.
They'll both join the German national team in mid August for the Supercup in Bamberg, Germany.
After that they'll head to Lithuania to play the european championships.

Genug erholt: Nowitzki ist bei der EM dabei!

Since there is a lockout I don't mind Kaman playing for Germany. It will be a good way of keeping him sharp and in shape. Hopefully he will stay healthy.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

The risk has diminished with the lockout, so I'm actually glad that he's going over. I had my reservations in 2008, but did look forward to seeing him play alongside Dirk and team Deutschland. After dealing with another injury-plagued season this year, it could be a nice way for him to increase his trade value.

If there is a season, I'm expecting Chris to bounce back. He's in his prime, it's a contract year and could be very productive as long as he's actually on the court.

He's lookin pretty good so far. I love his mobility and footspeed in the post. As a Mavs fan I don't get to watch Chris on a regular basis but I gotta say I really like his skillset.
Today he was way better than Asik, Kanter and the other Turkish big men combined. You just gotta love how fast 230lbs can move. Kanter is gonna be good though one day.

Kaman is a player that can be really good or really frustrating. Last preseason, he looked like he would be a certifiable all-star. When the season started, that Chris Kaman was gone and then he got hurt. Given his contract status and the organization being in a favorable situation (cap-wise), he likely won't be with the team much longer (i.e. traded or not re-signed in 2012). I really like the guy as a person and would be sad to see him go, but I am all for it if we're able to improve the team for the long run.

Game 2 against Italy: 76-62
17 Points | 17 Rebounds | 3 Blocks | 1 Steal | 3 Turnovers | 4 Fouls | 7-15 FG | 3-5 FT in 29 minutes.

The game was very close, but Kaman helped open it up with a jumpshot from the top of the free throw arc, an offensive rebound and putback, an easy bucket, two huge defensive rebounds. Bargnani was all over Kaman early on in the game, but he came huge. Rob Benzing from Germany is going to be a talent, I'd love to get him on the Clippers.

Through two games, Germany is 2-0, atop their group and Kaman is averaging: 17.5 Points | 13.5 Rebounds | 1.5 Blocks on 55.6% shooting and 5-7 from the line in 25 minutes.

Gotta love Kaman. The zone has been renamed "Kaman-country" by german TV commentators ;) He was a beast during crunchtime even though he struggled a lot during the game especially in the first half.

Benzing just went undrafted in this draft which kinda puzzled me as he's clearly the best german basketball product since Dirk and is still just 22. He averaged 15 points and 4.5 rebs in Germany last season. His biggest weakness is his weight. He needs to bulk up but at 22 there's still a lot of opportunity for improvement.

Kaman and his Germany squad face off against Tony Parker and France at 11:00 AM Pacific, in about 6 hours. This'll be the biggest test for Kaman as he faces off against Joakim Noah, a day after his 17/17 +3 blocks effort.

France v Germany - Friday at 21:00 (20:00 CET)

France have cut down two opponents at the EuroBasket in Lithuania already but their toughest challenge so far awaits on Friday.

Germany and Dirk Nowitzki are waiting for Les Bleus in a vital Group B clash and two of the biggest names in the sport will come face to face again.

Tony Parker will lead France against familiar foe Nowitzki in Siauliai.

The two basketball icons have a lot in common.

Each plays professional basketball in the American state of Texas, each has been named MVP of the NBA Finals and each reached the podium at EuroBasket 2005 when Germany captured silver and France bronze.

Now the players have leading roles in the 24-team EuroBasket in Lithuania, with San Antonio Spurs playmaker Parker having fired the French to wins over Latvia and Israel, and Dallas Mavericks ace Nowitzki having led Germany past the Israelis and Italians.

The two won't have the stage all to themselves.

France have been getting outstanding performances from Boris Diaw, Mickael Gelabale, Joakim Noah and Nicolas Batum while Germany's Chris Kaman, rising star Robin Benzing, Heiko Schaffartzik and Johannes Herbert have been in top form.

"I have no idea what the situation in the group is," Germany coach Dirk Bauermann said after Thursday's gritty win Over Italy.

"I just know that we're going to try and win the next game and that's the only thing we worry about.

"We'll get as much rest as possible, try to define a game-plan against France that gives us a chance of winning and then fight and scratch and do the best you can in the game. That's all there is to it."

Benzing, meanwhile, says he should be okay to play against France after taking a knock on his shin and limping out of the Italy game shortly before the end.

With an ice-pack on his leg after the contest, he said: "Yes, it's okay. It was just a hit."

Head to Head: France beat Germany 70-65 at EuroBasket 2009.

Last Time Out: France thrashed Israel 85-68 and Germany beat Italy 76-62.

Key Match-Up: Boris Diaw v Dirk Nowitzki.

Key Stat: Germany center Chris Kaman, who faces a big test against Joakim Noah of France, had 17 points and 17 rebounds against Italy.

X-Factor: Robin Benzing. The German forward has been outstanding in his two games for the Germans and his perimeter shooting can make a real difference.

Sounding Off: "That's the best thing about being here, to be able to compete against the best players in the world and I'm really looking forward to it" - Germany's Johannes Herbert.

"I'm not worried about anybody. I've been playing in the NBA for eight years and I play against all these guys. Serge Ibaka, the Gasol brothers, they're all solid players, but none of them are better than Dirk Nowitzki and none of them are any better than the rest of us."

20 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks for Kaman today to help lead Germany to a 76-67 victory over Turkey. He started the game shooting 1 for 6, but made 8 of his next 10 shots and provided much needed offensive help while Dirk (19 points) battled through foul trouble. Turkey's NBA players included Enes Kanter, Omer Asik, Hedo Turkoglu and Ersan Ilyasova.

Germany lost it's first 3 games in group E and the final game is coming up on Sunday against Lithuania. In order for them to advance, they must win and probably would need some help from some of the other teams to move forward.

Strong offensive effort for Kaman today (25 points on 12-17 shooting, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks), but Germany fell to Lithuania 84-75. They needed to win by 11 in order to advance to the next round. With this loss, their Eurobasket season is over as well as their hopes in playing in the 2012 Olympics. Dirk had a terrible game by his standards, making only 4 of 17 shots. I didn't see this game, but I heard that he was getting beat up with little sympathy from the refs.

Kaman averaged 15.5 ppg on 54% shooting, 10 rpg, and just under 2bpg. He was the tournament leader in rebounds, blocks and double doubles. Thanks to Clipper Steve for this info.

I know that Kaman only goes if Dirk goes, but I wonder if he would have any interest in participating in future international tourneys. Him and Dirk will both be getting up in age.

You cant just change your National team in FIBA. He played for Germany, so thats it, he can play only for Germany now.

There was given only one exception in the history, when FIba allowed Bulgarian Vassil Evtimov, to play for his country. He played for both, France and Bulgaria national teams during his career. A lot of fans, including me, still cant figure it out why Fiba allowed him to do that.

You can change your national team only if your country is ''brand new'' and it doesn't even existed when you played for the other country... Like Montenegro, former Yugoslavia and Soviet union countries.
