ugh, im so nervous. why would kiffin put this in teh hands of our clearly inferior defense? id take my chances for 1 down with the offense than trust our D at the moment.

Weak showing by the Trojans. I do like Barkley, Woods, and McDonald though. They all look like they have a future in the NFL.

plus Kalil, whose a top 5 pick in most mocks. our defense is much better than it was last year, and our offense seems to be slightly better, wouldve liked more use of Baxter/Morgan and Marqise Lee. no way should Barkley have to throw 45 times with the running backs we have. and that fumble completely killed our momentum and it took us like a quarter and a half to get it back.

and as bad as our defense was, it was worse last year. we couldve never made a play like we did today, and that gives me confidence. and our guys were really flying around in the first half, something they werent doing last year either. we still have a problem with depth, which is why we seem to struggle as games go on, but id still predict a 9-3 season, and possibly a Stanford upset.

what exactly do you question about him? hes projected to be a top 10/5 pick by pretty much everybody, and his stats are right on par with a guy like Landry Jones, whose also a projected top pick.

hes got a big arm, is pretty accurate, is a GREAT leader, and is actually pretty mobile for a pocket passer. hes got all the tools, is a great person, and has shown measurable improvement, including today. i think he'll actually be the best most successful USC QB to come out in the last decade, behind Palmer. id put money on him being better than Sanchez, who people seem to like as a top 20 QB, with room for improvement.

USC QB's in NFL since '03; John David Booty, Matt Cassell, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Mark Sanchez.

Yeah, I say Barkley has a future in the pros.

He'll fail in the pros just like Matt Leniart and Reggie Bush.

I wouldn't call Reggie Bush a fail. Thirty-three touchdowns in 60 NFL games isn't too shabby.

Is John David Booty in the NFL? I probably should have worded my comment differently. I dont think he will be any good in the NFL. Im well aware of the QB History of USC since Carson Palmer.

he'll totally fail in the pros, just like Clay Matthews, Troy Polamalu, and Carson Palmer.

well, i guess it depends on what you define as not any good. if you look at a guy like Sanchez, and say hes not any good, i could understand how you think Barkley wont be either.

I love Sanchez he will only get better. For some reason I see Matt as another Jimmy Clausen. I could be wrong. USC have been so mediocre under Matts watch, but its a team game so it totally not his fault. As of now Matt Barkley will spend his entire career at USC going to emerald bowl. Now I understand the bowl ban but seriously...the emerald bowl. Im not really sure how that is acceptable with the blue chips players they were recruiting.

That's because of how inexperienced and bad USC's defense makes the team.

I think alot of it has to do with Pete Carol. He was pumping this kid up from day one. It seems like he was pumping him up more than the other QB's he had. So obviously expectations go up.

you know just because someone is projected to be good doesn't guarantee they will be

Of course, but i was just trying to point out how pretty much everybody recognizes how good barkley is.

Sort of ridiculous to criticize him for only making it to the emerald bowl, since we have a 2 year bowl ban, and our defense last year was just horrendous. He is also the ONLY true freshman to start for USC at QB. And yeah he had a lot of hype, buy as far as I'm concerned, taking everything on and off the field into account, he's lived up to it.
