Clyde Drexler robbed of a quadruple double (1996)

Post#1 » by LamarMatic7 » Tue Sep 6, 2011 12:54 pm

Once again I have beef with the NBA as Clyde Drexler clearly gets robbed of a quadruple double. Now, my previous cases (Fat Lever and Tim Duncan could have had quadruple doubles, search for them in my channel) were uncertain and I simply did it to spark some interest/comments, but this time Clyde clearly deserved this achievement. Follow my annotations for assists and explain to me how are those 9, not 10, assists in Drexler's statline. Anyway - this is one of the most amazing performances in the NBA history. A 34 year old Clyde Drexler, distinctly without the speed and hops he had during is youth, is all over the court of The Summit on the 1996/97 season opener. He should have set the record for being the oldest player to record a quadruple double with 25 points (his shooting wasn't that good during this night though, 8/21 from the field), 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals (included more than 10 steals by the Rockets, hard to figure out with which Clyde was credited). November 1, 1996.

Man, I remember watching that game. Good times.... (other than Maloney/Livingston/Price at point guard...)
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?
A:Ask a stock market analyst or your financial advisor

I remember this point of the 97 season. The next game Chuck came back and had 30+ rebounds. The year was full of possibilities at that point.

I'll be the first to admit, I don't really know the criteria for how the NBA records assists.

But, I would think the one at 2:31 (fast-break, Drexler to Maloney) would possibly not be counted statistically as an assist. I *believe* Maloney takes 2 dribbles after receiving the pass and then scoring on the layup. And I'm *thinking* that only 1 dribble is allowed (none at lower levels I believe) for it to be credited as an assist.

Very well could be wrong, but maybe that is what happened.

Big Clyde fan nonetheless!
