I LOVE the Gervin pick. I was hoping he'd be forgotten and I could grab him as my 6th man. The guy could score the ball like few others. The only reason I took Barry is because he's a more rounded player, but that finger roll is sexy

It's just because you don't know them that well. I have some great sleepers for that category, because there are many great underrated ABA players.

Not really, no. Outside of the top few, there's nothing but guys who would be role players on a legend team like the ones we're building. Agree to disagree.

I was tossing up between the Iceman and Pistol Pete for a while, but decided to go with Pistol because of his passing and creativity. There is going to be some sweet ball movement in this team!!

George Mikan for relatives. This guy was legit. Best player of the first half of the century, would have won DPOY 4-5 times if it had existed and would have made all defensive team every year but his last. Scored loads of points too, got plenty of boards, and will make a great backcourt mate to Wilt.

Eat it.

david thompson - aba

before there was michael jordan there was david thompson. thompson is the guy that jordan grew up idolizing. he was one of the 5 greatest college players of all-time and was the man who led nc state to defeat bill walton's mighty ucla team that had not lost in years. thompson hit the aba as a rookie in the aba's last season before the merger and he dominated the league averaging 26ppg as a rookie. he was so good as a rookie that denver was selected to go to the aba over kentucky, the team that everyone previously thought was going in that spot. once in the nba thompson dominated the nba during a stretch that loaded with talent as the aba stars and nba stars played together for the first time. it was thompson, not doctor j who proved to be the best player from the aba once they both starting playing in the nba. in his 3rd year as a pro thompson averaged 27.2ppg, 4.9rpg and 4.2apg on 52% from the field. he dunked on everyone in his way earning the nickname the "skywalker". his hops were the stuff of legends. he had a 48inch vertical. his teammates described him as unselfish and said he never went after stats and always made everyone around him better.

sadly thompson's peak was derailed by a nasty cocaine problem and his career was cut short by a devastating knee injury. his career numbers can't hold up to the top 30 players of all time. he simply was not good enough over a long period of time to get those types of accolades, however, thompson, when he was healthy, his first 3 years as a pro was as good as anyone.

best year 77-78 27.2ppg, 4.9rpg and 4.2apg on 52% from the field
- college player of the year 74 and 75
- ncca champion 74
- final four mvp 74
- 79-7 college record, including 59-1 as soph/jr
- aba rookie of the year 76
- aba allstar game mvp 76
- all aba 1st team 76
- all nba 1st team 77,78
- nba allstar game mvp 79
- scored 32 points in a quarter and 73 points in a game
- nba hall of fame

It's hard not to when you're still in the top 100 all time.

Both were actually good atheletes...

From wiki:

"Meyer and Mikan worked out intensively, and Mikan learned how to make hook shots accurately with either hand. This routine would become later known as the Mikan Drill.[6] In addition, Meyer made Mikan punch a speed bag, take dancing lessons and jump rope to make him a complete athlete."

And Cousy was noted for being much more fluid than anyone else in the era by far.

Mikan = hook shots
Cousy = "fluid"

Shaq = shattered backboards

Here's a hook shot for you.

He doesn't look wimpy to me. Just not a big bulky center like Shaq. But that's why I have Wilt to be my center. Mikan was pretty strong. Definitely strong enough to play PF! He also wasn't a slow footed oaf. And he had decent hops, goaltending became illegal in the NCAA because he'd just knock all the shots away.

On Cousy, he wasn't slow. A lot of these guys weren't as cut looking as our current NBA players. That doesn't mean they're weak and slow. I'll admit that Cousy isn't the fastest PG ever. Whoever that is probably wasn't even in the top 500 NBA players though.

Basically: Cousy was decently fast and Mikan was a decent athlete as well. Which is all I was really saying calling them "decent athletes". They certainly weren't unathletic, even if they don't have big bulging black muscles or anything.

The entire point I've made, which is inarguable, is that everybody he has on his team, is known as an exceptional athlete. Even by NBA player standards.

I know how much you love to argue, and that's cool and all.

But you won't find anybody who says Mikan and Cousy are athletically comparable to anybody on stun's team so far. I'm not going to go back and forth about it.
