KOTB: Tor/Atl - Marvin/Bargnani

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Mon Jun 13, 2011 11:20 pm

If you believe both teams accept this trade, vote yes. If you don't, vote no.

Toronto gets:
Marvin Williams (7.5 mil)
Zaza Pachulia (4.75 mil)

Incoming: 12.25 mil

Atlanta gets:
Andrea Bargnani (9.25 mil)

Incoming: 9.25 mil

The financials works because Toronto has the Bosh TPE, allowing them to take the extra salary back here

Why for Toronto? Vastly improve their defense and rebounding, addition by subtraction with Bargnani going + a good perimeter defender and rebounder in Marvin and a good C rebounder in Zaza. A culture change move.

Why for Atlanta? Gives them a spark and clears two long term contracts. If they let Jamal Crawford go, Bargnani would replicate his 6th man scoring.

Toronto isn't spending half their cap space this year for Zaza to do what? be a backup 5 here? Makes zero sense for Toronto, I would rather just keep it at Marvin + for Bargs and possibly a small filler like Klazia or do that much talked about ATL/Toronto deal

I know Bargs value is low right now, but that is down right insulting.

^ think people underrate marvin slightly hes like the 5 option on a good hawks team and still finds a way to put up 10 with a good FG%

Pass for the Raps, Marvin's 10.4pts/4.8rebs/1.4 assists (45.8 FG%) in 28.7mpg, and 13.5 PER (@3yrs, 24.9 million) is simply not worth moving Bargs for, we're better off keeping him.

We're getting similar or better production from James Johnson (9.2pts/4.7rebs/3.0asts, 46.4 FG% in 28mpg, with a 13.2 PER), who still has a few years on his rookie deal.

I'm not a big fan of any of the guys in this deal, but Toronto deserves more than this.

Think people underrate Marvin to much. I really wish the guy could get a better oppurtunity. I mean everybody saw what happened to Jeff Green after being traded to Boston. He looked just as normal as Marvin did.

I mean you look at the stats with Boston, they had about 8 FGA per game, and scored about 10 PPG and with the exception that Marvin had 5 extra minutes, Marvin outrebounded Jeff, was a better 3 point shooter, and had more assist.

How can you make it an exception that Marvin played more minutes? He's obviously supposed to perform better with more minutes, which just wasn't the case. Yeah, he slightly out rebounded him but the assists should really not matter and the 3 point %... well I can say easily that Green is a better shooter than Marvin no matter what those small sample %'s say. The fact that Green manages to match Marvin's PPG in less minutes coming OFF the bench says something about both: Marvin just isn't that good, and Green should get more minutes.

Now, on to the trade. Pretty bad value for Toronto, and I don't even like Bargnani (at all). I'd assume if it was that bad, with Toronto having to swallow $$ to get it done, that Teague would have to be in the equation. Otherwise, there's absolutely no incentive for them to pull the trigger.

Nope. It means we're basically giving up on Bargnani and James Johnson. I think it's more likely that at least one of those guys prove they are more worth keeping around than Marvin. Especially with Kleiza on the roster. With Kleiza for Zaza added, maybe. Still wouldn't get me excited.
