One thing though, there were no minor opinions. Everyone either really liked them or really hated them.

As I said above, I was 50-50 on the uni as well. So was the Under Armor CEO, apparently.

I heard on Scott Van Pelt's ESPN Radio Show today an interview with the Under Armor CEO. The guy is a UMCP alum (as is Van Pelt). From his interview he indicated regardless of the chatter the team spoke for itself. There would be a different dialogue going on entirely about the uniforms had the Terps lost. Good thing Maryland won if you're a Terp fan!

His sentiments echoed what Coach Edsall said after the game, that the uniform was about pride in the state of Maryland toward Maryland athletics. The CEO seemed to almost admit without saying it that the uniforms weren't too popular. However, he mentioned the main thing is that Under Armor is very popular with 17-18 year old kids.

The bottom line about those uniforms IMO is that they won't trot that particular special addition out again IMO as it will probably be unpopular with potential recruits. That said, I hope the turtle shell helmet gets scrapped too. :o

If the Terps were to miraculously string together an 11 or 12-win season, I wouldn't care if they dressed out in Mardi Gras-themed costumes. It took me a while to get used to folks being tatooed up.

I can get used to football players dressed in beads, I guess. :(

Yeah, they can dress in pink tutus and I'd barely notice it as long as they just win, baby.

Jerami Grant has taken MD off of his list.

Time to focus on Jefferson and McGary.

Per scout.com

The Maryland Terrapins had a great weekend when they got the news that Jake Layman decided to pull the trigger and commit, but also things went well with Amile Jefferson. In fact there is a lot of buzz around Jefferson that the Terps could be in the early pole position. An upcoming visit to Ohio State could really tell a big story, but the Terps really impressed. One thing to keep in mind is that this recruitment could stretch out until right to signing day or even further, so it is bound to have twists and turns, but Maryland has made themselves a serious player here, and the ball is now in the other schools court in order to match what he saw in College Park

Maryland to name court for Gary Williams

“I’m honored and humbled to receive this recognition,” Williams said in a news release. “It’s important to remember that the success we achieved at Maryland was a team effort and all the coaches, student-athletes and staff who were here are a big part of this. I’m very appreciative of the effort by Kevin Anderson, President Loh, Chancellor Kirwan and everyone else who has been a part of making this happen.”

Maryland also intends to honor former men’s basketball coach Lefty Driesell, who won 348 games in 18 seasons in College Park before being forced out following the 1986 death of star player Len Bias.

Driesell's supporters believe such recognition – raising a Comcast Center banner for Driesell is among the options under consideration -- is overdue.

Syracuse, Pitt, and UCONN all going to the ACC is going to make it a lot harder for the mid-level and bottom feeder teams to compete in basketball or football. Seriously, UCONN/PITT/Syracuse/UNC/Duke as your top 5 basketball teams, how the hell do you even recruit?

No.

MD football hasn't always "stunk".

no D, that is just not correct. They stunk from the mid 80s to when the Fridge got there, and they've fallen off some recently. Otherwise, they've been very respectable as a football program.

--Back in the 70s they had relatively powerful teams under Jerry Claiborne, including one team that went 11-1 and finished in the top-10. One Terp from an early 70s team, Randy White was one of the best to play his position.

--I was (briefly) at UMCP when Bobby Ross was coach. (True story, Ross once yelled at me for not being in study hall upstairs in the Library with the rest of his team. He mistook me for one of his players.) The Terps owned the ACC back in the early 80s. Guys like Boomer Esiason and Neil O'Donnell went on to become very successful pros.

--Ralph Freidgen even have a good deal of success in his early years.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Friedgen#2005_season

The University of Maryland football team became one of five programs nationally to reach the ten-win plateau from 2001 to 2003, and Friedgen became the first coach in ACC history to win ten or more games in his first three seasons as a head coach.

There are a lot of Terps in the NFL. Torrey Smith went in the second round this year and today he just caught a 74-yd TD pass from Joe Flacco.

EDITED: Torrey caught his first three career catches--all for TDs in the first quarter. :o

Nobody in NFL history has done that, I'm sure.

Howard set to visit Maryland

The courtship of Malina Howard of Twinsburg, Ohio, now is down to Notre Dame and Maryland. Two weeks ago, Notre Dame played host to the prospect ranked No. 7 in 2012 by ESPN HoopGurlz. Now it's Maryland's turn, and it has an equally big weekend planned as the Terps are hosting their current Class of 2012 commitments, including four-star guard Chloe Pavlech and No. 22 Tierney Pfirman.

Brenda Frese and her staff also will welcome a couple of Top 20 Class of 2013 players to College Park this weekend, including No. 17 Alexis "Lexie" Brown and No. 3 Diamond DeShields.

Brown pledged to the ACC program last June while DeShields still is on the fence. Pavlech and Howard played on the same Sports City summer team while Brown has a previous relationship with Howard after previous trips to Maryland for unofficial visits. Throw in the unofficial visit from the uber-athletic DeShields and this has the potential to be a major weekend for Maryland.

No. 7 Malina Howard commits on her last official visit

Malina Howard of Twinsburg, Ohio, has verbally committed to Maryland, according to her Twitter account. The 6-foot-3 post chose the Terps over her other finalist, Notre Dame.

"It's official I am a terp," was posted on her page, twitter.com/malinahoward5.

Howard, a 5-star prospect according to ESPN HoopGurlz, made the announcement while on her official visit to Maryland. The No. 7 ranked player in the class is the third Maryland verbal in the 2012 class. She joins Tierney Pfirman of Williamsport, Pa., a 6-2 forward who is ranked No. 22 in the class; and and Chloe Pavlech of Cincinnati, a 5-6 point guard who is rated a 4-star prospect by ESPN HoopGurlz.

Maryland football would be better if Freidgen were still the coach.

At 2-3 after losing at Georgia Tech, they face Clemson and then go to Tallahassee to face Florida State. That will make them very likely 2-5.

The win over Miami was fool's gold. This team is porous defensively.

I know I'm probably going to get a lot of flack for this, but MD should've hired Leach. Edsall isn't a program-changer, and Leach could've been that guy.

Edsall also made very poor hires in hiring Crowton and Bradfor.
