Azure's wild and crazy ATL-PHO trade
ATL sends Josh Smith, TPE, and filler (e.g. Damien Wilkins + Hilton Armstrong, or two scrubs of Suns choice)
PHO sends Vince Carter, Robin Lopez, Markieff Morris
Atlanta gets a starting C to put next to Horford, a young prospect big, and VC either starts at the wing opposite Johnson or takes Crawford's role off the bench.
Phoenix gets a good young player in Smith (still only 25), and gets out of paying VC $4MM for his buyout while trading away players who have no future with the team (VC, RoLo) or are unproven (Morris).
Teague/Hinrich
Johnson/Hinrich
Carter/Williams/Sy
Horford/Morris/Rolle
Lopez/Pachulia/Benson
Nash/Brooks
Hill/Pietrus
Dudley/Childress
Smith/Warrick
Gortat/Frye
Thoughts?

I think Atlanta says yes. Phoenix might too but that's conditional on the GMs plan. This is a decent trade.

Re: Azure's wild and crazy ATL-PHO trade
How exactly does Atlanta materialize a TPE (or cap space) to make this deal?

Re: Azure's wild and crazy ATL-PHO trade
Besides the maths not working, Atlanta is giving up by far the best player in this deal, and would easily decline. Robin Lopez is not starter material, Vince Carter is a short term 'solution'; Morris hasn't played a single game yet.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

Still have the TPE from the Childress S&T, pretty sure as long as they use it before the season starts they're fine... could be wrong though.

The real trade would only need 2 scrubs since Morris is getting his rookie contract.

Re: Azure's wild and crazy ATL-PHO trade
A team like Atlanta who struggles with attendance and sits at $66m with no depth, is not taking on $8m or so in salary like this trade suggests, and if they did they would waive VC which makes this trade pointless.

why does phoenix worry about paying out VC's contract, when Orlando gave them that money in their trade last year?

well this is how they would be defended
Teague vs PG
Carter vs SG
Johnson vs SF
Lopez vs PF
Horford vs C
not sure how this helps Horford's offense unless Lopez turns into a 7'0 Luis Scola.
remember this?
"Specifically, I am looking to be able to largely negate their scoring and generate at least enough points that the backcourt has a chance to carry the team.
Hedo/Bass/Dwight, Deng/Boozer/Noah, LeBron/Bosh/Nene, and Artest/Odom/Pau/Bynum."
Carter is not an SF defensively, he's just as slow as them offensively.

Really good deal for PHX. Meh for ATL.
Nash-Smith would be a really nice duo to watch.

I do not see why Atlanta would sell off Smith for spare parts. I do like the thought of Smith in Phoenix with Nash and Gortat, but I think it would make sense to get a third team involved to take on Vince.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Okay, what if the Suns toss in a 1st? Does that balance it out more?

Have I missed something? When did ATL decide to simply dump Smoove? Morris is the only piece worthwhile coming back from PHX and even that's iffy...

@azuresou1
you said in the other thread something to the tune of the frontcourt will slow down the other team long enough to carry the team (scoring wise).
scoring and assists/rebounding wise where do you see us? Also minutes wise?
Teague
Johnson
Carter
Horford
Lopez

Re: Azure's wild and crazy ATL-PHO trade
Seems everyone else is really down on RoLo, I liked him two years ago and though he kinda sucked last season I think he could bounce back. I think the injury really threw him off track and with this offseason to heal he should be better.
IF RoLo can return to how he was playing in 09, I think that the frontcourt greatly solidifies. I also think Markieff Morris can be a pretty good rotation big/spot starter. Carter has been absurdly inconsistent the past few years and is clearly on the decline but I think as a SG/SF he's still at the very least better than Marvin - better offensively, better passer, worse rebounder, different but equivalent defender.

This is terrible for the Hawks. If they couldn't pry Gortat in any Josh Smith trade then I'd see them settling for Robin Lopez, Pietrus and a lotto protected 1st.

Re: Azure's wild and crazy ATL-PHO trade
I could see where they would rather have peaches and a 1st, but I am guessing that (and I havent seen it quoted yet), that including V.C. isnt to make him a player in the line up. It is because he is essentially a 14 million dollar cap write off seeing as how his 18 million dollars next year can be bought out for 4, and I am sure Phx would include some cash as well in the deal. So it is a huge cap blow off, M. Morris, and Lopez really. I could see Phx also needing to add a 1st pick but not the 2012 one.
