I'm pretty sure Kidd won this one 5 - 4:

Kidd (5): drza, DavidStern, lukekarts, SDChargers#1, Laimbeer

Pierce (4): Dr. Mufasa, therealbig3, Fencer reregistered, DoctorMJ

I think you're right about the nominees being tied, though:

Reed 4 (Lukekarts, Dr. Mufasa, drza, RonnyMac)
Cousy 4 (JordanBulls, Fencer reregistered, Laimbeer, SDChargers#1)

Which actually makes things easier, because we have the protocol established. If Kidd and Pierce were tied we'd have to leave voting open for a whole extra day, which last time was pretty tedious since most everyone had voted and there weren't any new ideas put forth all day. But with the nominees, in the case of a tie we just leave them in the pool and re-vote next round with only 9 available to vote on. At least it's a clean slate and we can start the next thread.

It's over when Penbeast or a suitable substitute says it's over, and Penbeast warned us that the schedule this weekend could be quite nonstandard.

I don't think he'll be available until Sunday (that's what he said in his post in the top 100 thread), and he said he's leaving it open for someone else to take care of it, like another mod. So TMACFORMVP or Doctor MJ can end it, if they have the time and feel like doing it.

If it's still open, I'm changing from T-Mac to Pierce.

Since McHale appears to have no shot...

Vote: Kidd
Nominate: Mourning (eeh...rather not vote for either Reed or Cousy, but if no one else votes, then Reed)

Kind of confused by Reggie getting votes. I didn't even have him in my top 75. Out of guards I've seen enough of who haven't been nominated, he definitely wasn't better than Ray Allen, Dennis Johnson, KJ, Billups, Ginobili, Richmond, Vince and not taking longevity into account, Mark Price, Deron, Paul, Penny and probaby some more, and there are a lot of "maybes" as well. I know it sounds blasphemous because of how fondly he is remembered but really...he wasn't top 50 good. He made the all-star team 5 times in 18 seasons, at best was thought of as a top 6 guard in the league three times in his career (3 all-nba third teams), was probably never even a top 15 player in the league ever (maybe got in there once but that's all I can see). He didn't do other things as well as all the guys I mentioned, and the one thing he did do well (score), he wasn't as good as the others at doing it individually (creating own offense). Reggie in top 50 is bizzare, maybe even more bizzare than where Artis got rated in this project.

I'm changing my nomination to Willis Reed. His post defense was great (in that 1970 finals G7 he had the most good defensive plays among all Knicks players!) and on offense he provided more than only points (in G7 he created at least 12 offensive opportunities, after 9 of them Knicks scored).

So it seems Reed won nominations 5 to 4 with Cousy and after fatal's votes Kidd won 6 to 5 with Pierce.

I trust your counts that those are the scores at the moment. :)

If one likes Kidd, why not also Cousy? Both were tremendous eye test PGs, but unimpressive shooters, whose offensive prowess might be called into doubt by team offensive results. Both played on outstanding defensive squads. Etc.

If it is between Pierce and Kidd, I'll take Kidd.

Have you read any of the arguments for Reggie?

Is someone going to make a #37 thread since Penbeast is away? I can make the thread, but I can't sticky it...can one of the mods sticky it for me when it comes up?

Since it's already past 3 pm on Saturday, I propose we extend the vote on the #37 thread until 10 PM EST on Monday
