sabonis pre-injuries just looks insane. even as an old man on two horrible knees he was still pretty damn good, 16 and 10 in like 25 minutes back with the blazers. imagine what he would have done to the league if he came over in the mid 80s.

Re: Retro Scavenger Draft - Sachmo's Pick
sachmo is assembling the sickest passing team in the history of passing. can you have too much passing?
even unseld is considered the greatest outlet passer in the history of the league. walton and sabonis, maybe the two best passing centers of the past 30 years. then you have bird, the best passing forward ever. maravich, no doubt the flashiest passer of all time. payton might be the worst passer on the team.

With that kind of passing you have to wonder if he's gonna surprise us and play one of those five off the bench to keep ball movement going at all times. Sachmo seems to have a knack for these things.

fatlever wrote:is price a better shooter than cousy? yeah, most likely. price was a better shooter than 99% of the players who have ever set foot on an NBA floor. there's no shame in being worse than price at shooting. however, i would think that cousy was a better ball handler and a better passer.
100% agree. By any standard, Price is a prolific shooter. Much better than even his contemporaries. Cousy, even in his era, was average at very best. I don't really see any evidence to suggest otherwise.
For me, it's as simple as not needing an exceptional distributor to have good ball movement. I have Scottie Pippen (all-time leader in assists by a Forward) and Rick Barry (11th all-time in assists by a forward) to help with the distribution. Though, 8 assists per game over an 8 year prime is certainly fine if you ask me, Chris Paul has averaged 9 assists over his career.
For my team, I needed a floor stretcher who also happened to be a PG. It just so happens I got the best shooting PG in the history of the game not named Steve Nash (and Nash is ineligible).
hug it out and move on to the next fight.
Don't worry, I've already begun ignoring him.

I'm still surprised Pete never accumulated more assists. I looked back through his numbers half expecting 30/10 seasons from him. But he always hovered around the 4-6 assists mark.

probably because he was always on crap teams where he was expected to score 30 points a night. seems like pete was a flashy passer as a way to entertain and not so much because he just loved making those around him better or because it was the best play available. i definitely dont think pete got "the secret". but he was surely fun to watch.

Re: Retro Scavenger Draft - Sachmo's Pick
I was seriously considering starting Sabonis and Walton as twin towers. Sabonis was agile enough in his youth to guard a lot of 4's.
That's the funny part, he would be considered a top 10 all time point guard but your right, the others would be considered more creative passers. I decided after Bird and Walton that ball movement was going to be motto for this team. There would be some slick passing for some easy scores with this lot. Its not like they can't finish themselves either!
I'm not sure of the make up of my team yet, but I think Gary will probably stay starting point guard for his super tough defense and he was also an excellent finisher for a point guard. I'm sure he will love all the outlet passes from Walton, Unseld and Sabonis.

Seth Curry if you wanna add him prematurely. I have a feeling he's going to be pretty nice down the road. Does David Thompson count? Shelby isn't that far away
Walter Davis went to South Meck
