UFC 139 (11/19): Shogun/Hendo, Wandy/Cung Le, Faber/Bowles

Post#1 » by CPT » Sat Sep 10, 2011 10:29 am

Either I'm blind or there's no UFC 139 thread, so I guess this will be it.

This fight might be cool enough to warrant its own thread anyway.

As per vitorbelfort.com...

After Belfort’s last explosive win in UFC 133 against Yoshihiro Akiyama, UFC is quickly putting him back in the ring and this time against martial arts master Cung Le for UFC 139 on November 19th in San Jose, California.

If this is true, it joins the following fights on the card:

Brian Bowles vs. Urijah Faber
Martin Kampmann vs. Rick Story
Ryan Bader vs. Jason Brilz
Rafael dos Anjos vs. Gleison Tibau
Stephan Bonnar vs. Kyle Kingsbury
Tom Lawlor vs. Chris Weidman

This card suffered when it had its main event poached for the UFC's debut on Fox. Belfort vs. Le doesn't make things all better, but it helps.

Well the rest of that card is underwhelming to say the least, at least to me.

But Belfort vs Cung Le is awesome! Wow. I wasn't sure we'd ever really see Cung Le fight again. So I'm just excited about that prospect.

However, unfortuntely for him, I can see Vitor's devestating K.O power being the difference maker. Le may be able to get him a few times with some awkward strikes, but he wont do nearly enough damage, and eventually Vitor will catch him, and K.O. him. At least those are my early thoughts.

Great fight nonetheless.

Interesting bout. Cung Le better keep Vitor at a distance with his kicks because if he allows Vitor in punching range he's going to sleep.

Ya, nice match up, but I see Vitor with W.
The UFC would probably love it if Le won though, another guy to feed to Silva who has no chance of beating him.

Ya Le probably get's demolighed against Anderson, but stylistically, man that would be a sic fight. You want to see some dynamic striking? :droop:

I'm surprised people like this matchup. Vitor first round KO/TKO, Le doesn't have the power and got knocked out by Scott Smith. lol.

I agree Vitor is a heavy favourite, but any time Cung Le is fighting, it's something to get excited for.

Vitor hasn't exactly fared well against top-level strikers in his career either. It's possible that he just bumrushes Le and overwhelms him, but I wouldn't be shocked if Le could keep him on the outside and catch him with something when he charges in.

I like watching Cung Le fight, but Vitor is going to pounce on him. Maybe he'll actually connect clean this time.

Well, at least it won't be boring.

Can't see how Vitor loses it.

This card needs a bigger fight.

What are you guys talking about? That's a fantastic set of fights. Kampmann, Kingsbury, Bader, Lawlor, Brilz...these are all really good, interesting fighters.

I am actually really surprised that Cung would take that fight. It's far and away his toughest ever. Who has been the second toughest...Shamrock?

Wait, Cung Le is in the UFC?
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

^^^ When they moved Cain/JDS to the Fox show they were probably desperate for a big fight. The card is being held in an arena where Cung Le has proven to be a big draw. That's probably why they brought Le over.

Wait, Cung Le is in the UFC?

You're ordering this card on PPV if no fights are added at the top?

You're honestly stoked for Bader vs. Brilz, Bonnar vs. Kingsbury, etc?

Before Belfort/Le, this was a mediocre Fight Night card.

I like some of the fights but no way I order it due to lack of compelling fights (much like ufc 133).

Although I wouldn't mind seeing Kampmann fight and Vitor obliterate Cung.

Do you guys think Vitor would get a title shot if he wins this convincingly?

Considering how the fight with Silva went down, I doubt it. Quick rematches should only be for highly competitive fights. He needs to win at least 3 before he's considered again.

Oh, I agree that it shouldn't happen. Just asking if people think it will happen.

Usually a difference there, and mma seems to be rematch happy for some reason.

Back of the line for Vitor, but lucky for him, it's a short line at MW.

Vitor should get 2 more wins to earn a rematch with Anderson. The MW roster is so thin though. Munoz is probably still a win or two away from a title shot against the winner of Silva vs Sonnen/Stann, but who does he fight next? Leben? Belcher?

Awesome fight & I'm thinking that Vitor is going to bring the pain for this one.

Agreed the 185 division is watered down, they need to throw caution to the wind & have the contenders take each other out so as that Andersaon does not waste the last few years of his career.

They can't even bring Jacare over now to fight him legitimitely :(

Munoz is actually fighting Leben as the headliner of an upcoming superweak UFC card in England.
