Here's the post match conference for federer. I have to ask when did this guy turn into such a sore freaking loser? Never once congratulates Novak, mocks his game and calls his shots lucky.
I mean have a little sportsmanship after winning so much.

I think he should have handled himself better but doing an interview after losing like that must have been real tough.

Federer has always been gracious in defeat. After he suffers the toughest of losses he's allowed not to be one time.

Glad someone said this. Fed is typically far better than most other players (Djoker coming to mind immediately) about being gracious in defeat.
Also, this wasn't an opponent having their accomplishment for a lifetime being diminished by Serena saying "I played like crap because I haven't been staying in shape". This is Djoker having possibly the best year in history. Everyone already KNOWS he's playing extremely well, do we really need to hear Fed say it?

This is what annoyed me with Federer fans, he was really never as classy as people made him out to be.
When he started losing to Nadal and was not the dominant force that he was, he started having little snide comments.
It is easy to be classy when your winning all the time. (not liked any of this really matters to his game, but just annoys me how people do not see it)

His record of 182-0 when leading 2-0 in sets in a match and now Roger's lost 2 straight in a grandslam to make it 182-2 ughhhh. Federer is done winning slams I think and I can't believe this is the first year in how long that Roger hasn't one at least one slam in a tennis season??!??!?!
(Yep, and Nadal's record is 113-0)

(Federer wasn't gracious during the first few losses to Nadal, not that I have the quotes, but he did call Nadal one-dimensional and talked about how you don't need talent to win on clay. After a while though he quietened down about Nadal. Then there there was the excuse-filled 2010 Wimbledon exit to Berdych, which received plenty of criticism from the media. I think the key difference these days with Federer is that he's losing big matches to guys other than Nadal whom he now accepts. He's rarely had to deal with such heartbreak, so his humility/class-level is being tested for the first time in a while. Not sure if he knows any other way though, but its not a great way to exit the game)

Not like I think the dude's perfect, I just think that if you compare him to most other players, he's actually better behaved than most. In particular, drives me nuts when people call him arrogant for not practicing false modesty.
Here's what I will say: In terms of acting polite, I'll give Rafa the nod over Federer. I really, really like Nadal as a person. But when people go off on Fed when he's in the same sport as Djoker, Hewitt, Hingis, Kournikova, and the Williams sisters it just blows my mind.

I know you said you don't have quotes, and that's fine, but it you find the quotes, I'd like to see them.
The "one-dimensional" statement I believe, but would like to see the context.
The quote about not needing talent to win on clay I actually don't believe. Not that I think you are lying, but I think if I saw the quote I'd have a very different interpretation than you. It's just such a stupid statement that it's hard for me to believe anyone said it.
On the other hand I could believe someone saying something like "There's no such thing as talent for clay court tennis, there is talent for tennis, and then there is comfort and stamina on a particular surface." I don't think that's a correct statement, but I could at least imagine it being said.

Re: US Open 2011
Federer is a great winner, but such a sore loser.
Aside from the one dimensional comments, after losing to Rafa for the first time in the Aussie Open final he said something along the lines of "well the best player doesn't always win".
A few other examples spring to mind as well. Like I said, great winner though.

I had a feeling Stosur was the only one with a chance against Serena, cause at least she could hold her own physically against her, like a mini version of Klijster and Henin's ability to keep with her. Congrats to her

Re: US Open 2011
What a huge choke from Serena. She didn't lose a set throughout the tournament and had the crowd behind her on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and she loses in straight sets.
Hopefully we get a match of epic proportions tomorrow.

Re: US Open 2011
Congrats to Sam! Didn't think she would demo Serena like that!
It sucks that it seems to be mostly about power now. If you don't got enough muscle, you can forget about winning.
Feel kinda bad for Wozniacki who got killed by Serena only to be killed herself by Stouser. Caro better workout more and get some muscle on her otherwise she'll never win a slam. Hell she only had 2 WINNERS the whole match I believe!
Also what's with the crowds at the US Open? THEY'RE PATHETIC!! Even in a tennis finals the arena seems to be at least 1/4 empty!??!?!
Seriously the NY crowd is loud, but damn they really suck when it comes to attendance. Not sure I saw Ashe stadium full even once during the whole two weeks. Maybe for the men's finals it'll be packed, but compared to the Aussie Open or Wimbledon, US Open attendance really BLOW GOATS.

So did y'all watch the match today?
I just don't see any way people can be seriously bothered by Federer if they aren't bothered by like 90% of athletes. If that makes you like Nadal best because he's so gracious, I'm totally down with that, but the notion that Federer is somehow one of the worst sports out there is comical.

Re: US Open 2011
Quick thoughts from the final:
-This sentence has been in my head all tourney long, "Serena Williams is a modern Wilt Chamberlain", I still feel it now. So exceptionally talented that she can't stay focused and tends to get very lazy with the fundamentals. As with Wilt, she should not be considered the GOAT at her sport because she cannot consistently dominate like a few others could. She is however the most talented female athlete I think I've ever seen.
-Stosur's play makes me so happy and hopeful. Happy for her to break through finally. I was all set to crown her the dominant player of the moment during the 2010 French and then she fell apart. Good to see her fight back.
Hopeful because she has the potential to be a truly great player and the game desperately needs one who is still young enough to do it consistently. Serena's been great forever but inconsistent, Clijsters took that next step after becoming a mom, but she's injured half the time. The Wozniackis of the world just aren't going to do it.
It's a shame that she's emerging to late in her career, but I really hope she can follow this up with a Player of the Year worthy 2012.

Who in the world said Federer is one of the worst sports out there? That's a comical misrepresentation of what I said.
Oh, and that IS exactly why I like Nadal.

Re: US Open 2011
And not to stand up for some players who can be douchey during matches, but tennis is a frustrating sport. Emotions run high and tempers flare. I do think there is a difference in blowing up during a match (this happens to pretty much anyone and everyone), and insulting the player who just defeated you after the match is over.

Thing is though, we thought that the new era would mean only super-powerful women would thrive...and then we saw Justine Henin nearly equal Serena's accomplishments before she retired. Obviously Henin built herself up as much as she could as that was necessary...but she proved you didn't have to be Serena/Davenport strong to dominate in the modern game.
So yes you need more power than Wozniacki's giving to be the champ...but let's not underestimate how much of a limp wrist she is. In a sport where now a solid serve for a woman is well over 110 MPH, Wozniacki hangs out south of 100. The game has always required some power, and Woz doesn't seem to use any.

Wow just saw a replay of Serena going off on the chair umpire! WTF?!??!
Anyone who says Federer isn't very complimentary towards his opponents sometimes, at least he doesn't abuse officials the way Serena has done at least TWICE at the US Open now.
Seriously girl I know you're pissed but HAVE SOME EFFING RESTRAINT!! That was just sad and embarassing to see.
