I've heard it all before.

At least it makes sense for Adelman to be here. There's a vacancy at the head coach position, he's getting paid what he wants, our team fits with his coaching style, and he has a personal connection with Kevin Love dating back a number of years. Rubio, had to be sweet talked into coming here. He did notice that this team is on the rise and that he was drafted to lead the Wolves. It's his job, there's no other competition. The team was built around him and I bet he knows it as well.

Battier - I assume still wants to make a major impact on a team fighting in the playoffs like the Grizzlies or wants to hop on a championship contender. The last thing he's thinking about is being a backup to Michael Beasley, Derrick Williams, and Wes Johnson on a team that can't even get a whiff of the playoffs. I guarantee he's not ready for a rocking chair teaching young kids how to win games. He still has his goals of winning and shows zero signs of slowing down.

In what world would Battier not get major playing time on the Timberwolves? And if we got Battier, there's a fairly good chance Beasley or Williams would be traded the same week.
The last thing Battier would worry about coming to Minnesota is playing time. He knows Adelman will play him.

I don't think we are going to trade for Battier. I think Adelman wants another team like his Kings, where he gets to develop the same guys for 5-7 years and get them playing exactly how he wants them to play. And I think Minnesota is a good fit for that. The only thing we are really missing is a scoring wing, and we have a few redundant parts to trade for one.

Edit: You know, come to think of it I could see a Mayo/Battier/Gasol for Williams/Darko or Pekovic/Webster/Johnson type trade going on if Gasol wants more money than Memphis wants to pay him. We are a good fit to make a trade with Memphis with Mayo seemingly a disgruntled young player and Marc seeming to not want to resign there. Young talent that fits reasonably well for young talent that fits reasonably well isn't a bad way to go. Adelman is pretty ideal to teach someone like OJ Mayo after all.

Battier will stay at Memphis. No way he moves of his own free will.

I'd bet against that. With Gay, Mayo, Allen, Young, and Henry their wings are pretty stacked as is. The you add in the fact that they also need teh $ to sign Gasol (or at least a replacement center) and I think it's fair to say that Battier won't be back with the Grizz. That said, I think he'd pick a different contender, i.e. Boston, Miami, New York, etc., long before he'd sign with the Wolves.

With the personalities that Memphis has, if nothing else they need to keep Battier for being mature, always playing hard and good defense. you need influences like this when you want to get life out of zach randolph. on the same note, he could be a good guy to try and mentor beasley a bit.

So I guess it's official now. Rick Adelman is our new head coach. I've got to say... I never would have thought we would actually pull this off. I'm sincerely impressed.

Agreed... with the mess that Minnesota was supposedly in... how nobody wanted to work for Kahn... How Adelman was going to retire... it really is impressive.
