Impact Vegas Summer League Rosters & Schedule Announced

Post#1 » by mkwest » Thu Aug 25, 2011 5:45 am

Las Vegas summer league is alive and well after all.

Sort of.

While the NBA's official summer league was canceled in July as a result of the lockout, more than 50 players will be descending on Sin City to take part in a league at Impact Academy, starting on Sept. 12. And while the labor gap between owners and players means an actual season is likely still many months away, the Vegas session that was first reported by Hoopsworld will have the feel of an unofficial training camp for a number of teams.

Call it Phase II of lockout life for the players. While ventures such as these won't provide much-needed leverage in the nearly nonexistent negotiations with the league's owners, they will certainly help when it comes to staying in shape during the prolonged work stoppage.

According to Impact owner and renowned trainer Joe Abunassar, the Clippers' Blake Griffin, Mo Williams and Randy Foye came by last week and expressed a desire to enter the league with a team made up solely of their teammates. Oklahoma City center Nazr Mohammed is trying to convince Kevin Durant, James Harden and others to do the same, while Indiana's Dahntay Jones and Denver's Al Harrington are making similar pitches to their respective teams.

•Games will be played in the afternoons and evenings, Monday through Friday for two weeks starting Sept. 12, with playoffs to follow thereafter.

• Abunassar is envisioning a maximum of eight teams in the league with seven players per team.

Re: Vegas summer league to provide...distraction from lockou

This is great news imo. I'm happy to see that our franchise player and some of the vets are looking for ways to improve our team despite the lockout. With rosters being limited to 7 players, somebody is going to be missing out, but it's much better than just getting together every couple of weeks like they have been.

There's already been talk of Bledsoe participating in the league, so that would leave about 3 spots up for grabs. I'm thinking DJ, EJ and probably Aminu.

Such great news. I'm a junkie looking for my NBA fix. The Clips fielding an actual lineup would be amazing.

I wonder what 7 will participate. I'm hoping its the 3 that mkwest says but won't be surprised to see Rhino or Gomes get a spot as well. Gomes is a better player than he showed this past year and hope he can play his best whenever the season tips off.

I heard before that there was going to be a league in Vegas. I'm all for our players doing this. I want as many to participate as possible.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

‘Lockout League’ Is Set to Tip Off in Las Vegas

A swarm of Knicks, Clippers and Rockets players will soon descend on Las Vegas for two weeks of intense competition — only without coaches, contracts or the imprimatur of the N.B.A.

As many as eight teams, featuring seven or eight players each, will play daily starting Sept. 12. The series will end with two days of playoffs, with a championship game Sept. 23. Games will be officiated and played under N.B.A. rules, albeit with 10-minute quarters and without coaches barking from the benches.

The plan is to sell tickets (about 500 a day, with proceeds donated to charity) and to stream the games live on the Internet.

Teams will be assembled with an eye toward parity and with an emphasis on keeping N.B.A. teammates together. Billups will probably be joined by his Knicks teammates Shawne Williams and Iman Shumpert. Another roster will feature at least four Rockets: Kyle Lowry, Chuck Hayes, Chase Budinger and Courtney Lee. Mo Williams and DeAndre Jordan of the Clippers will form the core of a team, with hopes that their teammate Blake Griffin, last season’s rookie of the year, will join them.

Howard Beck, NY Times

Standings and boxscores will be posted. Games will likely be streamed. If the lockout continues, other series/seasons will take place in October, and possibly November and December.

NBA AM: Who’s Playing in Las Vegas?

Impact Basketball is working out the final details for their two-week competitive training series, which means NBA stars are beginning to flock to Las Vegas. The league’s rosters won’t be released until Thursday, but over 50 players have already committed to play in next week’s games.

John Wall, Rudy Gay, Zach Randolph, Stephen Curry, Kyle Lowry, Stephen Jackson, Chauncey Billups, DeMar DeRozan, Tayshaun Prince, Al Harrington, Jermaine O’Neal, DeAndre Jordan, Mo Williams, J.J. Hickson, Austin Daye, Jared Dudley, Marreese Speights, Dahntay Jones, Courtney Lee, Chase Budinger, David Lee, Dorell Wright, Jeremy Lin, Omri Casspi, Hakim Warrick, Eric Maynor, C.J. Watson, Ryan Gomes, James Anderson, Avery Bradley, Melvin Ely, Derrick Caracter, Armon Johnson, Shawne Williams and Terrico White are among the players that are expected to participate.

The Impact CTS will also feature a number of rookies including Iman Shumpert, Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler, Jordan Williams, Malcolm Lee, Josh Selby, Trey Thompkins, Travis Leslie and Shelvin Mack.

Blake Griffin remains a possibility, but he may not be able to play for the entire two-week period due to his busy schedule. If the lockout continues and September’s series is a success, Impact will hold another two-week session during the month of October, which Griffin would participate in.

Alex Kennedy, HoopsWorld

DeAndre Jordan, Mo Williams, Ryan Gomes, Trey Thompkins and Travis Leslie are named in this article. With Aminu being confirmed by ESPN, I'm guessing that Bledsoe will be the last player.

I'm a little surprised that some of our guys weren't involved, but happy to see that Willie Warren will be there. There hasn't been much news about him this summer, so it'll be good to see him put in some work with his teammates and hopefully see some improvement in his game. Also, I'd love to see Leslie and Allen go head-to-head after their dispute earlier this summer.

The teams have switched up numerous times and they only ran 3 games yesterday. The Warriors now have a full team (8 players including Curry, Lee, Udoh, Wright, Lin, Thompson, Tyler and Jenkins). Still no word if Aminu, Blake, Willie or Bledsoe will join the team next week.
