Was Terry on the cover for Winning Eleven 9 (PES 5?) on the PS2 back in 06?

^^^^
But at the end of the day I have to go with Roy Keane who was a freak in every sense of the word, football was never just a game for him it was a way of life, his own teammates revered & feared him for both the right & wrong reasons.

If he was English I believe they would have won world cup number 2.

Tony Adams & Patrick Viera honourable mention.

I forgot to say that David Beckham said that Roy Keane was the best player he's ever played with.

He was so strong mentally & physically it seemed that people forgot how good he was with a ball at his feet.

Also forgot that Neil Lennon deserves an honourable mention aswell.

There are so many great captains but the best I believe is between Maldini and Keane.

Funny you guys say that because Keane was supposedly considered to be Robson-lite or Steve Bruce-lite at Old Trafford. He's a great captain and a driven man but he's not even the best United captain.

I am basing it on players I saw play. Even though I am 35, soccer wasn't on TV too much until the late 90's and I like to go by what my 2 eyes saw.

Makes sense, I started watching football when Keane was in his prime too.

Worst captain: Carlos Tevez
I'd always thought of propane as a dignified lady. But she can also be a dirty girl.

Players I have seen, Oliver Kahn, you better play right or you're getting your ass kicked. He's probably the most intimidating player of all time.

Zidane is also a good one, France still hasn't recovered from losing him.

Blasphemy...lol...yeah it is a matter of opinion & Robson maybe but Bruce hell no.

Steve Bruce was a good player but not good enough to lick Keano's boots & was never even capped at senior level....Oh & Gary Pallister was a better defender & better captain that Brucey.

Still I'd go for Keano, He was captain of United for 13 years or so & led them to the most success they'd had since Bushby babes.(their nickname not mine lol)

treiz wrote:^I think when it comes to Germans it has to be Oliver Kahn, don't get me wrong from the clips I saw of Beckenbauer he was that national team, I still say he's the best CB of all time. But when a captain is needed to get you over the hump against all odds Kahn wins it hands down. Just look at how he pretty much dragged Germany in the 2002 WC.

Except Kahn didn't manage to win it all. Beckenbauer captained and coached a young team to trophies. And of course he's the best CB of all time, is that ever really debated? I mean a lot of people under-rate him in GOAT discussions, but in G-CB-OAT conversations is there really much debate? Beckenbauer was a perfect captain/coach-on-the-field because he'd win the ball for his side, bring it up himself and then distribute it into the offense and really was a fantastic deep lying playmaker. So he was literally the engine driving those teams forward.

That said Kahn, Zidane and Pavel Nedved are the 3 guys who most prominently come to my mind when I think of a captain I watched live carrying his team to success.

Also, I don't understand how come Roy Keane was a good captain. That douche was a guy who slaps, kicks, tried to kill almost every soccer player except Manu players. Especially, the one he just stepped on the player with his feet, awful man. I don't understand how you guys even watch him.

Bruce not making the English team is a travesty but he did refuse to play for Ireland if I'm not wrong. He might not have the same technical ability of Roy Keane, just like Keano never had the ability of Giggs, Scholes or even Ferdinand but he was one of the best defenders of his time despite his physical limitations (too slow) and just like Robson before him, Bruce took care of the younger players like they were his family, something Keane learnt first hand from. I read stuff like Keane confiding to Bruce about his troubles as a younger player.

Also the fact that he joined as an apprentice at a small club because no one offered him a contract and what he has made of him shows how great a professional he is.
