Re: Retro Scavenger Draft - Paydro's Pick
I think I might end up dropping a couple categories before it's all over, to be honest. There's a couple that will be hard to fill. Maybe not drop, but might end up with non-rotation players.

I think going to 15 is a little excessive... much like the current player draft, the decisions are going to be made based on the top 8 or so (i.e., the players who actually play in the playoffs) anyway.

Meh, its all for fun and to fill in time during the lockout, so why not.
I was even wondering if we should have a trade period at the end.
See if anyone is willing to swap players.

I don't base my decision that way though. I take a look at the team assuming injuries too.

Like since so and so has three great centers and a decent backup, trading two for a SG or something.

Re: Retro Scavenger Draft - Swedd's Pick
First I picked up my favorite player ever. Now I'm going to add one hell of a wing to give him a target for when he gets into the lane. An old school Charlotte Hornets favorite of mine.
He was always an efficient and effective all around player. But in his second season (96-97) for our Hornets, this dude went nutzoid:
26.8 points
4 rebounds
2 assists
1 steal
.......while shooting an incredible 47% from deep.
Why is that incredible you ask? Plenty of guys shoot high percentages from deep. But very few do it on such a high volume. That year, he became the only player to shoot 47% or better on over 5 attempts per game.
Glen Rice

NBA Champion (2000)
3× NBA All-Star (1996–1998)
NBA All-Star Game MVP (1997)
All-NBA Second Team (1997)
All-NBA Third Team (1998)
All-Rookie Second Team (1990)
8th All-Time in 3's made
Dunks & Threes category

Yeah, why not, we have all missed out on players we've wanted. We pick to fit the categories but when thats complete, we can trade for whatever category. Probably would have to make it equal number of players being traded.

Re: Retro Scavenger Draft - Swedd's Pick
Someone mentioned that I could do with a couple of slashers for my team well here is one of the best who played the game. He grew up playing in on an outdoor court in New York where he said it was too windy to take long shots so he became an expert at taking it to the hoop.
They called him the Kangaroo Kid, for ABA, Billy Cunningham.
In 72-73 he averaged 24.1 pts, 12 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 2.6 steals.
NBA Champion (1967)
5× NBA All-Star (1969–1973)
3× All-NBA First Team (1969–1971)
All-NBA Second Team (1972)
NBA All-Rookie First Team (1966)
ABA MVP (1973)
All-ABA First Team (1973)

*Sorry about the delay, had to run off and collect a sick kid

Nice pick. I nearly took him myself last pick but Earl Monroe is just a badass. I think he'll compliment your team better anyway

yup, its all for fun and to fill our boredom and to enjoy reading about all these past great players, so why not go to 15, especially when some of you were complaining about only having 12 in the last draft.

Re: Retro Scavenger Draft - LamarMatic's Pick
He could have been one of the greatest all-time forwards, yet he was robbed (a point shaving scandal, which was never proven to be true) of an opportunity to be one. Connie Hawkins from the Mecca of basketball.

When the ABA gave him a chance to play pro ball, Connie was hanging around Pittsburgh, had no money and lived in a row house, which was in pretty bad shape. He had just about hit bottom. And he came out with a 26,8 points, 13,5 rebounds and 4,6 assists per game season. Also Finals MVP for the first ABA champions - Pittsburgh Pipers.
When he got into the NBA, The Hawk was nearly 30 and he had a couple of knee problems - it wasn't the same guy. Anyway in his first NBA season he averaged 24/10/5. It's too bad that they didn't count steals and blocks back then, since he was a really good defender. I noticed on wikipedia that on the season closing game of his first NBA season he had 44 points, 20 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 blocks and 5 steals. That's Connie Hawkins for you. He still made 4 all-star games and 3 all-NBA 1st teams on those bum knees.
He had large hands, so he controlled the ball with ease, could handle the ball like a guard and was unstoppable when he was hot. When he would rebound he could fake an outlet pass to one of his team-mates just like he would be a quarterback. Right after he fake, he would throw a perfect pass down court for somebody like Charlie Williams for the 2 points. Connie was the perfect team-mate, since he made everyone around him better. A true student of the game, who knew the importance of passing and playing defense.

Bellamy was a guy I was really hoping to grab. Oh wellllll
And Connie is another guy who only had a few great seasons, too bad he didn't get an entire career to prove himself. Larry Brown had a ton of glowing remarks about him.

Re: Retro Scavenger Draft - Captaincrunk's Pick
one thing that every great NBA bench needs is an energetic big man who can come off the bench and absolutely wreak havoc for 5 minute spurts at a time. and every great NBA bench needs a big man who not only intimidate the other team insane dunks, blocks and put backs but at the same time get the home crowd on their feet screaming.
does anyone fit this description better than the "reign man" shawn kemp.
before he got fat and lazy kemp was a destructive force whose athleticism for his size has rarely been matched.
i will put him in the journeyman category
6 time all-star
3 time all-nba 2nd team
best season
95-96: 19.6ppg, 11.4rpg, 1.6bpg, 56% fg

this mix is dunktastic
