It seems like Mourning is going to get this nomination, but I just want to point out how much time he missed during his prime. After all, you want your superstar out there as much as possible.

From 93-00, his prime, he only averaged 35.6 mpg.

From 93-00, he only played 534 games, which is a little under 67 games a season. So not only is Mourning not giving you a lot of minutes when he's playing, he's also going to miss, on average, more than 15 games a season.

My guy, Kevin Johnson, is pretty much the same, but I just want to point out that Mourning wasn't any better than Kevin Johnson in the longevity/durability/playing time department, in case that's a reason why people are choosing Mourning.

I used to have a problem with this for both KJ and Zo, but neither missed that much playoff time though Zo again didn't play huge minutes. Zo's only missed playoff game was in 98 and that was a suspension for the brawl with Larry Johnson.

Yes, both players missed a lot of regular season and yes, the games they missed and minutes they were held out to keep them healthy should count, but I don't have as big a problem with it as I thought I would. (and anyone supporting Sidney Moncrief should not be casting stones at chronic injured players unless that stone lands at Bill Walton's feet).

Woah - 35.6 mpg for a center isn't low minutes at all. It's actually near the top end of the time played: http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... y=mp_per_g

Stern, do you mean this?

We expect to see Reggie's numbers go down more than any star on that list, and they go up more than anyone's. And the team's offensive numbers are quite impressive throughout that time as well (both RS, then in the PS) and coincide with Miller's play.

Pacers RS relative to league, then PS relative avg. opponent DRtg
90 +3.4 +0.0
91 +3.8 +9.7
92 +3.5 +4.0
93 +3.9 +11.2 (Knicks "GOAT" defense)
94 -0.2 +1.7
95 +1.3 +6.9
96 +3.2 -1.0 (Miller plays 1g)
98 +3.4 +7.2
99 +5.2 +8.3
00 +4.4 +8.1
01 -1.0 +1.4

That means save for 1990 (1st PS) and 1996 (played one game), the Pacers offense improved in performance in every single PS Miller played in during his prime.

Maybe it's a criticism I have for centers in general then, since I expect a superstar player to give you closer to 40 mpg or even more, like LeBron, AI, Pierce, Kobe, etc.

And Mourning wasn't just any center, he was considered a superstar center, a franchise player. He's a guy that his team wants out there as much as possible. Compare him to the other superstar centers; he plays less minutes than all of them.

What I'm trying to say is that for a player of Mourning's caliber, he does play a relatively low amount of minutes.

Looks like McHale makes the list and Zo gets nominated
