Jays interested in David Ortiz?

Post#1 » by RocLaFamilia » Sun Sep 18, 2011 5:01 pm

Speaking of Ortiz, if the Red Sox felt as if there was no market for him this winter, they'd no doubt love to lure him back with a deal similar to the one Jason Varitek signed in 2009 (one year, plus a complicated mutual option). But other AL teams think Ortiz will have multiple suitors after a big year -- even within the AL East alone.

One of those AL East suitors just might be Toronto, where Ortiz has a history with the manager, John Farrell. And you should never count out the Yankees, even if there doesn't seem to be a logical baseball fit.

"The Yankees are an obvious possibility, just because of the ballpark and the rivalry," said one AL exec. "The baseball guys there wouldn't want to do it. But face it: Sometimes they do things for other reasons. And it wouldn't hurt that he could flip 40 balls out a year in that park."

Since when does Weems bring any kind of defense to the court anyway?

Nice title. It doesn't say anywhere that the Jays are interested in Ortiz.

I'd be fine with Rogers spending any money at all to improve the team's 1B/DH situation.

Ortiz has a few more years in him, I'd think. He's having a monster year so far this season, especially for a guy who was basically written off two years ago. .315 BA, .981 OPS, 29 dingers and 70 walks and an All-Star appearance? Not bad so far, I'd LOVE to have that at 1B instead of He-Of-The-Sub-.740-OPS...

No thanks. There is better players on the market if your going for FA's. Younger too.

Well Ortiz can't play 1B, but DH, sure...

Question mark, not exclamation mark/period. Therefore a question, not a statement.

It still sounds like a speculation based on something, when in fact it is nothing. It's misleading.

Yup. Unless he comes pretty cheaply and/or short term, I don't really like this type of investment.

Dude, he is clearly right. The way you phrased the title is only used in situations where there is speculation. This isn't that. It's just a random reporter saying it might be make sense.

Its a thread title, you guys need to relax. Would adding "Are" at the beginning of the thread title make both of you feel better? I'll do it for the two of you, since this is clearly an emotional problem, lol didn't think this thread title would make people upset.

Projecting a bit there? I am neither uptight nor upset about this. I simply chimed in because a) I was misled by the title at first too and b) you were clearly incorrect in your usage but unwilling to accept it.

Not my first choice but can't argue with a signing especially when the signing use to play for one of your division rivals.

Was watching the Yankees game today versus the Rays. And Johnny Damon has played for all AL East teams except us, just saying...
