Do you want the Jazz to succeed or tank next season?

Post#1 » by Xsy » Sun Sep 18, 2011 8:25 am

Sounds bad, but I want another losing season.

But I only want a losing season that looks promising. I want the young guys playing a lot of minutes. The last thing I want is Utah getting too good, too fast. Two final pieces to the puzzle next offseason is too tempting to pass up.

Not that I'd complain about a winning season or anything.

Na, just do your best. No one working for a contract wants to just do their part at getting replaced anyways. Players are stupid to tank, unless you are looking to be moved.

Too many bad habits can be learned during a season of less than 100% effort.

Thats why you give 100% but trade aging players that aren't in our long term future (harris / jefferson / potentially millsap).

The clippers don't even have enough young talent to win a championship after they traded away the 1st overall. The warriors pick will yield a solid starter at best, not a star. We need another top 5 pick to contend, which I think we can only get by going for a full rebuild. Just my opinion.

If they can win, while still giving Favors, Kanter, Hayward and Burks quality minutes, then that would be great. If playing those guys means winning fewer games this year (if that's what you want to call tanking) then I'm fine with that too.

I'd much prefer a winning mentality and one more piece to the puzzle.

I don't think the team can make the playoffs so I would like this year to be more focused on development than winning.

I just want to see long-term decision making. That means young players getting enough PT to develop their games, people being moved and/or dangled that don't fit our roster plans, and existing vets being given the opportunity to find roles that we will need them in down the road.

What I DON'T want to see is Al Jefferson shooting 20 shots a game, getting his 20/10 on 49% FGs and 3FTA/g, Millsap shooting a ton of long 2s, CJ taking a ton of jumpers and not playing with any focus or intensity, Devin Harris playing for his numbers etc etc.

I want structure, I want vision, and I want to see that we value the places we are going instead of just whoring ourselves out for a random win in the middle of January.

I think if we DO take all these as our m.o., we will be a 29-32 win team, and will end up with the 8th or 9th spot in the lottery....if everything goes relatively well.

If we get lucky and a few key injuries strike our vets and we pull off some mid season trades, I think we have a shot at 22-25 wins and a top 5 slot.

There is no way we have the talent on this team right now to build a contender. Something insane would have to happen, like all four of our young guys completely maxing out their potential (which has like a 1.5% chance of happening) or Dwight Howard deciding he wants to be traded here. That means we need more pieces....and more importantly, we need more shots at getting that guy.

Who is going to fill the void that Deron Williams left? Favors will be a good player, but I'm not ready to bank the future of this franchise that he will be an All-NBA performer. Kanter looks good, but it's impossible to say how high his ceiling is. Hayward looks more like a good role player and Burks....I've never liked him personally, but we don't know what we have besides another SG who can't really shoot. Didn't like it with Kirk Snyder, didn't like it with Ronnie Brewer, and don't like it with Alec Burks.

So you keep looking until you find that guy who can carry your team. You add pieces until one or more of them distinguish themselves as building blocks, and THEN you start building around them. The worst thing we can do is become that low-tier playoff team who wins 48 games every year. Ugh. It makes me sick to think about.

I already miss the playoffs, but I also think that this team is going to have some issues with fit. Millsap and Kanter doesn't seem like a good match to me, and really I'm not sure that Jefferson fits either, as much as I love to watch him play. I think they would be fine for 6-8 minutes per game together, but there needs to be some changes. I also like Harris a lot, but again, not sure of fit. The team needs some consistent shooting (maybe Harris develops that three this summer, he shot well once traded to the Jazz) and some good defenders. I'd love to see what a guy like Goran Dragic or DJ Augustin could do at the point for this team....

I'm all about Goran Dragic. Would love him as a six man spending some time at both guard spots.

I want the team and players to play hard and play to the best of their abilities. I would like to see the young guys get more minutes though, at the expense of wins? Maybe.

I want them to play 100% as I expect as a fan, anything less is a disappointment. I'd much rather see the team with 39 wins and barely miss the playoffs and say they gave it a lot of effort then people not giving their full effort and only winning 20 games.

I want us to play hard but still suck and win under 35 games at the same time. We need a #1 type a guys and can't count on one of our current young guys to be that or getting that guy in a trade/signing. Under 35 wins is usually where you need to be to get a #1 pick since we have seen many low 30 win teams get it as 22 and under win teams get it.

We should be able to suck enough to get under 35 wins while still trying hard. Let the young guys play more and mabey a injury here or there would help. If needed, trade a key veteran for some young talent and picks.

The Andre Drummond campaign begins (although theres a few other guys like Barnes that we will happily take).
