Pac 12 officials vote to keep it at 12 teams. That would leave 9 teams in the Big 12, pending the move by A&M.
That means that if the Big 12 merged with the Big East after TCU moves next year, it would make a 16 team super conference. If UConn ends up moving to the ACC, then Villanova may get a D1 invite.

Re: Conference shuffling?
With UConn maybe still moving, maybe WVA or MO moving to the SEC there might not be total closure.
The Pac-12 announcement puths the kibosh on the Notre Dame talk. The Big East and Bid-12 still might need some additions. I think the SEC wants to be at 14 to prevent one side from being able to add an extra patsy to the schedule. That has to be either MO or WV. MO is probably already in.
My updated prediction is that the Big East adds in a travel partner for TCU, and the Big 12 adds 2 schools, maybe BU and Boise St. The Big East team would be a Golden ticket though, for a team that probably isn't up to snuff. Central Florida or Tulsa.

Re: Conference shuffling?
I'm extremely relieved to hear the Pac-12 announcement. I think it is in the best interest of college football to maintain 5 or 6 BCS conferences to prevent all-out elitism and avoid a fundamental division in D1-A. It also allows a couple schools who deserve an invite to a BCS conference to get in. All-in-all, it's turning out (tentatively) to be a really good set of moves. I just hope we aren't going through the same paranoia next fall.

The super conferences would change the landscape for a long time, and probably not better nor worse.....just different.
I won't ever be convinced that most of this is over.....as too many schools have seen the available $$$$$$$$ down the road......and no doubt being pushed by that 4-letter network

Re: Conference shuffling?
The Big 12 and Big East still need to fill out. If UConn, WVA and Rutgers leave the remaining football schools may just go to the Big 12.

At the first available opportunity, yes. As soon as the SEC's lawyers make sure they won't be sued.

Now that the Big 12 is staying together for now......and Dan Beebe has essentially been fired.....and supposedly the Texas TV network is no longer under Beebe's protective curtain......watch A&M want to stay/return to the Big 12.......LOL

Re: Conference shuffling?
Beebee is out as Big 12 Commissioner.
http://www.ncaa.com/news/ncaa/article/2 ... mmissioner
We shall see if this is merely a stalling move or if this provides any stability.
The Big 12 dumped its embattled commissioner Thursday and said nine schools had pledged to give their TV rights to the conference for the next six years, a step intended to preserve a fractured league that has lost two members in the past year and expects to lose another by next summer.
"The bottom line is we achieved substantial reforms," Oklahoma President David Boren said after school presidents met by telephone for more than an hour. "We feel extremely good."
No contracts had been signed yet in part because some schools must get the approval of their governing boards, league spokesman Bob Burda said.
It ultimately approved, schools that leave the Big 12 during the contract would leave their TV rights -- and millions of dollars -- behind in a blow much more punishing than a typical exit fee.
There are signs that the league has a lot of healing to do.
Oklahoma, which was trying to leave the Big 12 just a few days ago, and Missouri, which wanted to leave for the Big Ten in 2010, staged competing news conferences to start spreading the new message of goodwill and stability in the Big 12.

TCU invited to Big 12.
Now, if they just add Rice, SMU, and Houston the Southwest Conference shall be reborn.....minus the Hogs

Re: Conference shuffling?
The Big Least wants to expand now since TCU will be heading somewhere geographically sensible. If I were them, I'd bring Nova up to D1 and invite UCF, Navy and East Carolina to round out the football-only conference at 10 schools.

Re: Conference shuffling?
If the SEC adds WVA instead of MO then the Big 12 could still look at WVA. WVA leaving essentially kills the Big East as a Football conference. They'd be much weaker than the Mountain West and would lose their auto bid. That's possible even with WVA.

At this point.....with the BE waffling so much on what has to be done.....I'm not sure that the basketball side actually wants the football side to stay in tact.

Re: Conference shuffling?
According to a source with direct knowledge of Friday's Big East conference call, the conference has sent conditional invitations to Houston and SMU for all sports and Air Force and Boise State for football only. The Big East informed the four schools that if all four agree to join the Big East then the remaining schools would agree to an increase in the exit fee from $5 million to the $10 million range to show a commitment to the incoming schools. However, the six remaining football playing schools won't commit to raising the fee unless all four commit to joining the Big East in football with Houston and SMU joining in all sports.
Meanwhile, the Big East sent a separate all-sports invitation to UCF and are expecting the Knights to accept, the source said.

Prayers have been answered. Hopefully Boise St and Air Force accept. The real question is whether this is enough to ensure a long term guarantee of an BCS automatic bid.

Re: Conference shuffling?
The Mountain West Conference and Conference USA have agreed to form a merged 22-team football league, hoping the move will help solidify both conferences and improve their chances at obtaining a Bowl Championship Series automatic qualifying bid.
The league will have a two-division alignment and will play a championship game, Conference USA commissioner Britton Banowsky said during a conference call announcing the move on Friday.
The two leagues would maintain their independent structures in all other sports under the arrangement, which could begin as early as 2012.

I'm really not sure where they are getting 22 teams...There are 12 in CUSA and 8 in the MWC. That number includes TCU, who is going to the Big 12 next year, as well as all five schools that may accept invitations to the Big East. It seems more likely there will be a 16 team CUSA/MWC hybrid, which does not have the strength to get a BCS bid.

Re: Conference shuffling?
The thing that I don't understand is that they'll both be in the realm of mediocrity, football-wise. The only thing they contribute to the conferences is a new recruiting market.
WVU will not be able to recruit better than Oklahoma and Texas, though now they may steal some kids from Pitt/Rutgers/Louisville because they play in a better conference. And Mizzou has absolutely no shot at recruiting SEC country over any team, maybe besides Vandy or Kentucky.
