Rogers Centre LF hecklers toughest in Majors

OUT OF LEFT FIELD

Texas Rangers left fielder Josh Hamilton has said playing left at the Rogers Centre is the toughest in majors when it comes to hecklers. "I didn't believe it," said Angels outfielder Vernon Wells ... Wells started 1,338 games in centre over 12 years for the Jays. "Never heard a thing in centre -- well maybe I did hear a few things -- but I never heard anything from left." And now? "They are the best, they are consistent and persistent, they are loud and funny, they are passionate for the home side, they must all wake up the next day with sore throats," Wells said before Monday's game. "I find myself laughing at how funny they are. They are tougher here than Yankee Stadium." ... What topics are covered? "My average, my contract, things that aren't printable. But they are impressive. Sometimes I cover my mouth with my glove, they have me laughing so hard. That's how witty and quick fans are."

Maybe it's just easier to hear hecklers because the stadium is empty. :dontknow:

I've sat in LF a couple of times this season and there's definitely more heckling there than there is in other parts of the stadium. When I went, it was only a handful of guys that were heckling from the 1st-4th innings (I'll admit it, I was one of those few in those games that I went to). Then once the beers started flowing, it seemed like quite a few of the people sitting in those areas were heckling the LF/CFs.

I don't know if they're the toughest in the majors but there are quite a few of them there.

I have sat in every part of the stadium many times and I found right field to be the worst. They love to eat up the opposing teams bullpen and right fielder. The best was a guy getting kicked out for telling Mike Timlin that he slept with his wife the night before. Timlin disappeared and a few minutes later police, not security, escorted him out.

That's actually a little stupid... saying something like that should not be an arrestable offense, that's mildly ridiculous.

lol Timlin was always a hothead...way back when he started with us, I went to a game (growing up my dad's company had season's tickets 2 rows back of the Jays' dugout)...someone in our area was giving him an earful after he got yanked for suckage and was walking back to the dugout.

The fan wasn't saying anything nuts as far as I remember but he was loud...anyway Timlin almost made it back to the dugout but just before he hit the steps he looked up and started unleashing with "hey fack you pal!" Then one of our coaches popped out of the dugout real quick to pull him in before he got any more incensed.

The best part was his expression listening to the heckler before he exploded..trying his best to bottle his rage.

The last series I went to was also against Timlin , fans were holding back because they were kicked out for heckling before.

Back about 15 years ago Mike Timlin threw me a ball from right field all the way across to the third base area. Came over and signed it a while later. Didn't know he was a heckling target. I remember him asking Joe Carter for the game ball after getting Otis Nixon out to end the World Series, saying "that's my world series save!" and Carter reluctantly says "..... alright!". Those are my 2 Mike Timlin memories.
