“He’s in the best shape I’ve ever seen him in,” said Glover, who spent six seasons in the NBA, including a 1999-2004 run with the Hawks, and starred at Georgia Tech. “I think Derrick’s going to have a great year if they do decide to play.”
He added: “You can tell the difference in the shoulders. He has those Dwight Howard-type shoulders.”

Re: Favors adds muscle
The article says Favors was still 19 when the lockout started.
This is good. Although he did not show a great, fully-developed game......he showed bursts of power, rebounding, dunking, etc.
If he gets a lot stronger...that will help.

The kid could already power through anybody to get to the basket. I have more hope for Favors than anyone else on the Jazz right now. He's the same age as most of the rookies coming in this next season, and still has pleeeenty of time to grow.
Can't wait to see where this kid is in his fifth season.

Well, that's good, but shoulders don't shoot the ball!
Maybe they'll keep people from taking the ball away from him! Ah, I don't remember anyone doing that before. Anyway, I'm glad Favors has big shoulders now. Maybe he'll be able to grab more rebounds and throw them to small shouldered Hayward for the score.

Dwight Howard went from being a decent player to being arguably the best player in the NBA because he got way bigger.
It's not the end all, be all, and he may not have put on that much weight, but size is pretty important.

And plenty of quality big men to learn from. If some of Jefferson's offense and some of Millsap's badassery rub off on him he could be...the one.

Tell that to Chuck Nevitt!
It not the size that counts, it's what someone can do with the size they have that makes a career. I like Favors, but I'm not excited about him being bigger. We'll see what he can do with it. That's the issue, and nothing in the article mentions that other than pickup games and working on his positioning, etc.
I'll hold my water until the rubber meets the road on the court.

You're an idiot. Dwight howard was a decent player in 7th grade maybe. He was great from day one in the NBA.

In reality there are very few certified idiots in America. There is a significant number of truly illiterate, dumb and even pathetically incompetent people in this country, but actual idiots probably number less than say 2000. I have been fortunate enough to have met many of them, worked with some and be distantly related to a couple, but I doubt JazzFan12 qualifies as one himself.
Perhaps his original statement was incorrect but one error does not an idiot make.

Re: Favors adds muscle
If he keeps getting bigger, and I think he will as he finally gets into his 20s, I think he might need to play more center. So many 4s are speedy face-up guys.
I hope he uses his bulk to bully people on the boards and deny people position on defense.

In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

12/10 is great for a rookie, but I don't think it's that outrageously to call it decent for an NBA player.

Barney, I've known Malone since he was a teenager. He wasn't always bulked up but he was always good.
The point is size doesn't matter much if the skills aren't there, including the psychological ones. Malone had the whole package. Right now Favors has some of the tools. The question is how many of the tools does he have and how will he use them. The one positive thing I saw in the article was Favors is doing the work, at least for this year. Malone did the off season work for 20 years. Favors is on the right track, but it's only his first year. It takes a lot of discipline to repeat this process for 15 plus years, especially after the age of 30.
I think Favors is going to have a good career. I hope it's with the Jazz and that he can take good to great. We'll see.

All Dwight Howard can do is dunk, remember?

Im not going to argue that you need good basketball skills to be a good basketball player. I just believe size also matters in the NBA. I always heard Sloan and Layden say "you can't teach size" and I always remember the Mailman saying he was so committed in the off seasons to his workouts because he believed it was his body that gave him his competitive advantage.

Re: Favors adds muscle
its "funny" how peps on main board predict his carear, kid definitely dont get enough love that he deserves i dont know why probably cuz he plays in Utah but screw that, of course no one can guaranty that but i could easy imagine him being even better than Howard is, homie already got more tools in offensive game, he got great def talent, phenomenal athleticism, maybe he is not so explosive as Studemire or Howard but compensates that in overall strength
