Is Tom Brady the greatest football player ever?
Brady has already been compared to Montana, and has good or better numbers than Montana, and is rightfully in the discussion for best QB ever.
their are a few players who are far and away the best player in their position like:
Jerry Rice
Jim Brown
Berry Sanders
Reggie White
Butkus
LT
Deion
if Brady is the best QB ever, does that make him the best football player ever?

If Polamalu intercepted Sanchez, would your head explode from trying to decide whether to exalt Polamalu or make excuses for Sanchez? What would you do if Reggie Bush fumbled and Brian Cushing took it back for a TD? Or if Taylor Mays hit a defenseless Fred Davis with his helmet?

Hell no. Isn't even the best QB of his generation
Though to be fair, I think Manning in the regular season is the best player the league has ever seen. I just don't trust his playoff history enough to call him GOAT compared to an Montana, etc.

spygate only has to do with the defense, it has nothing to do with the offense, which Brady is still dominating and putting up monster numbers.

There are not 5 QB's who have played the game who are better than Tom Brady. It's not even arguable.

He has.
They confiscated all tapes in September of 2007. He's won 2 MVP's since then, and led his team to a Super Bowl appearance.

Best player ever? I don't want to argue that there have been so many great players that are in the mix, but not a top 5 QB? Please name your top 5, Roger.

I said boardline.
Its crazy to be able to argue that 5 of Peyton Manning, Otto Graham, Steve Young, Joe Montana, Brett Favre, Dan Marino, Johnny Unitas, or John Elway is better than him? I don't think so. He'd make my top 5 but theres lots of all time great QBs, and to be frank, the Tom Brady that was winning Superbowls wasn't close to as good as the Tom Brady we have today, which makes me dislike the 3 rings = goat argument.
I'd have Manning, Graham, and Montana ahead of him. I'd probably put Brady 4th.

When a QB can go down in week 1 for the year and his team still wins 10 games that says something. I am not arguing that Manning is better, which has been exhausted, but look how much Mannings loss affected a team vs. Brady.

What? No. If you put Brian Hoyer on the pats right now, we'd struggle just like the colts are doing this year.
The 08 patriots just came off of an 18-1 season. Take a look at the patriots schedule in 08, it was a cake-walk and they still missed the playoffs.

Re: Is Tom Brady the greatest football player ever?
Well damn, Roger, that's a debatable top 4. Your post came off like he was on the border of being left out of your top 5. Apologies for reading it wrong.
As for 3 rings brady not being the same as 2 time NFL MVP brady. I don't really see your point there. The 3 rings argument is very valid. It's not like Terry Bradshaw, or like Marshal Faulk likes to say "Trent DIlfer." Brady was the best player on the field for three super bowls leading his team to victory.
I'm not saying that makes him goat, but three rings plus some record setting years as he evolved with the Passing League should put him over most of those guys you mentioned

I don't know. Tom Brady shocks me with how good he is now. Hes straight up amazing. When he was winning rings I felt he was getting too much credit. Those defenses were stacked and although he played great overall he just never wowed me like he has the last 4 or 5 seasons.
Basically I think if Brady was doing what he has over the last 5 seasons over the 10 years of his career that I would think hes a better QB than he is now even if he had 0 rings.

- winning 10 games is not that great of an achievement
- Cassel is an above average QB, as he has shown in KC
- prime Randy Moss was on that team
........ Brady can take a team to 16 wins (which is an achievement, not 10), and Brady can put up monster number with elite receivers and average receivers, Dion Branch's career is proof of that.

if you have a draft and can select from any player in history, Brady, Montana, and Reggie White are in the discussion for #1 pick.
i kinda want to throw Brown in their, but RBs just don't win multiple rings.

Re: Is Tom Brady the greatest football player ever?
I'm not seeing how anyone can putting Manning over Brady. They used to say the gaudy stats, but Brady's are just as insane. And he has more rings, beating Peyton to get to those SB's in the process. Also, Brady's still on the field, we may have seen the end of Manning as we knew him.
