He can play as much or as little as he wants under Adelman, with nobody close to his current level blocking his minutes at SG.

He has the opportunity to be the driving force on the team, where on others he'd just be a third option or sixth man. He'll get a lot of credit for team improvement, and the chance to remind people why he was an All Star.

MIN will pay him. While other teams may need a safer pick for their team goals, Kahn likes to take on ex-lotto players with risks that lower their value.

Umm ... clean air? Good school system? umm ..

To be a 10-15 minute backup? Doubt Roy takes that.

Why would Roy get less minutes here than anywhere else?

Because of Johnson. Roy isn't exactly an athlete anymore, so he doesn't necessarily fit the fast pace the team is going for, and IIRC he was shooting in the 30% range when he came back from injury. That's not exactly starter material.

I'm not against him coming here, I just don't see why he would want to. There would be other teams with larger roles available.

I disagree. Wes Johnson isn't exactly a highly established shooting guard. If Roy's healthy enough to play and be effective, he'll get as many minutes as he can handle. If he can't be effective, he won't play a ton of minutes for anyone.

He's in like the 2nd year of that contract which is why he's an amnesty candidate. He hasn't made that money yet. Who knows what's on his mind, but opportunity to play may be as important to him (or more important) than playing for a contender.

I mean assuming Roy is available because of the amnesty clause. For that reason, he would receive the 80 million.

I don't think Roy's our first pick and Minnesota isn't Roy's first pick either. I agree that having an opportunity to play is probably important to him, but I also believe a lot of contenders can offer this as well. Still this is nothing more than speculation. Of course we don't know how Roy feels about Minnesota, how Minnesota feels about Roy, and if even if there will be am amnesty clause.

I'd rather sign Rip Hamilton, he fits more with Adelman's offense and doesn't have injury problems. Give him three years if needed, he plays a lot like Ray Allen, so his game will age well.

It just seems overly defeatist to assume Roy wouldn't come here. If the Wolves want him, they could easily offer the best combination of contract and opportunity to play.

I don't know about Adelman's offense, but I think Roy fits better with our roster. We could use a ball handler at off guard.

A lot of Portland fans were mad at Roy, cause he struggled with adjusting to his limitations, often overdribbling, trying to still be the man, etc. That's what makes me wary of him, in his head Roy still may think that he's a star player, while his body can't cash checks his ego writes.

At this point I assume Adelman, not Khan, will decide the pace of the team. I highly doubt Khan will have any say in how the Wolves are coached from this point forward.

Adelman: "You're going to see a team that's going to push the ball up the court, attack the other team's defense, do things before the other team can get set."

Adelman: "That's how we want to play," when asked how being uptempo fits into his philosophy. "We want to push the ball. We want to be on the attack all the time. That's something we're going to stress with this team."
