ALDS: NY Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers: Repeat of 2006?

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Thu Sep 29, 2011 2:18 pm

Two franchises with a lot of history...conjures images of Mantle, Maris, Ford and Lolich, McClain, Kaline. Last time these two tangled in the ALDS, Yanks seemed reloaded getting Lidle & Abreu along with Randy Johnson...instead Mussina, Johnson, & Wright faltered after Chien Ming Wang put them up 1-0.

Since then a lot has changed. Kenny Rogers' grease stain is gone. So is Bonderman and Todd Jones.

Yanks will be seeing Justin Verlander...and an offense as nasty as their own. Are the Yanks a better team since their 2006 collapse?

oh, yea, that year was odd.. we just could not hit the junk bonderman was throwing up there.. and kenny rogers pulled a good game out of nowhere...

Honestly, I think CC can battle verlander to a stand still and our bull pen is better.. Honestly, cabrera is the only guys that scares me on their team.. the yanks have 4 guys that can beat detroit.. this is a different yankee team for sure....

another thing we didn't have then is the speed of gardner and granderson.. I think in close games, gardners speed will be the difference...

Funny thing, I was in Holly Hill SC a few weeks ago for my grandmothers funeral. Brett gardner is from there as well.. very , very small town, not far from charleston. It is a big deal having a pro player from there.. actually they have like 3 guys from that town playing in pro sports... that is the equivalent of having like 5 HOF players from the same HS.. lol. really it is.. anyway, I could swear they named a street after Gardner, in which I never saw before.... Good for him...

I think the Yanks have to somehow win game 1 by keeping it decent until Verlander is removed and that may require extra innings.

Damn. Is it Friday already?

Any one of the 4 playoff teams can meet the Phils in the WS.

I think the Yanks gotta pounce on the Tigers. If they let Verlander and the offense get in a comfort zone, it's good night Irene.

I feel fine with Nova as #2 but Garcia as the #3 scares me. I prefer someone like Colon who can mix speeds and when need be, crank back and blow one by even if it's for 5 innings.

One thing's for sure Girardi can't mess around with the Tigers offense. You see smoke, you gotta go to the pen immediately...Boone Logan walks one guy, don't wait. CALL THE PEN.

Best of 5 is so hard. You can't mess around 1-0 is huge, while best of 7 compliments deeper teams.

This series is the flip of the coin but IF the Yanks get past the Tigers, they have a very good chance to get to the WS.

Good job, CC...Delmon Young takes him yard. 1-0 Tigers. That might be all they need today.

This is bull to me. There should be a time limit to game delay. Not fair to the fans or players.

Yep, I can't imagine shelling out the cost for a game like this only for the pleasure of an extended delay.

Welp, all in all, I'm sure Detroit fans are probably a bit more pissed off that one of Verlander's starts was essentially pissed away. Since CC was paired with him anyhow, much less of a blow for Yankee Nation.

Magnifies game 2...MLB even bother to look at forecasts before making schedule?

Return to New York Yankees
