Slam Online's Top 50 -- #36 Eric Gordon

The “most underrated player in the League” title gets passed around from year-to-year like a red, white and blue Globetrotter ball. It’s mere coincidence that this season’s nominee rocks a red, white and blue jersey.

Entering his fourth season in the L, Eric Gordon is as steady as it gets. So much, in fact, that Gordon suffers from that syndrome where one is so consistently good—so habitually on-point—that his contributions often go overlooked and under-appreciated.

But truth be told, you’d be hard-pressed to come across a better 2-man, save Kobe or DWade. There’s an argument to be made that, in terms of bang-for-buck, he’s ahead of cash-guzzlers like Joe Johnson and Monta Ellis, too.

At 6-3, 220, physically, he’s built like a piece of granite. Skill-wise, he’s rock-solid, as well. In fact, it’s the “Rock”—Mitch Richmond—who many have appropriately likened him to. Though a couple inches shorter than Richmond, the comparison is dead-on. Great shooter and scorer, in general, tough slasher, solid defender. One who, despite having the utmost respect of his peers, flew under the radar on the left coast.

I originally thought EJ was a DRAFT pick wasted, I realized very early in his Clips career that I was So WRONG. I confused his lack of facial expressions & body movement for being lazy & not caring; I couldn't have been more wrong.
EJ is like a Tiger on the prowl, he waits..... he waits, then bam he attacks w/ speed, strength & finesse. I have been lucky to be able to see a couple of Clips game at floor level and you can really spot his intensity. He deserves to be #36 and he will go lower b/c he will improve his game.
I am happy that we did DRAFT him, I was so wrong!

Hey thats great you can admit when you are wrong. Just like Mo will make you feel in this season haha jk my man. But in his defense remeber he did just come of a serious injury. i hope for all of us he will make the trade look in our favor. As far as wasted picks. I felt the complete opposite of Livingston but then again what if????

Well said, great description. I also wasn't that excited when we drafted him. I was hoping to some how get Derrick Rose or OJ Mayo. However EJ did prove to me that he was a very good pick and I'm happy that we selected him.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I'm the opposite. I wanted this kid so bad and so much more than Mayo. I didnt like his attitude. All the picks since Livingston have almost been my top choice except for Korolev(who even knows how to spell his name now?) I was the only one shouting out for David Lee

Gordon was I guy that I was really high on. I doubted that we would be in the range for Derrick Rose and Beasley and was really hoping to get Gordon on the Clips. I liked Mayo as well (well it was more on-again, off-again type of like) and thought that he was one of those guys that would excel more in the pros than in college. He can still become a really nice player, but a scenery change may be in order. I was way off on what I expected Beasley and Bayless to become.

I think the #36 ranking for EJ is fair. I have him a little higher than that (especially in comparison to shooting guards), but I'm sure he'll be more regarded if he stays healthy.

I was pissed when Indiana traded him to Portland. It seemed like it was going to be another steal for them. He's still young and may be able to turn it around, but he has already been on 3 teams and is only 22. His future in the league will probably continue to be as a sparkplug off of the bench for 20-25 minutes. He's pretty much an undersized shooting guard. He also has some pretty small arms that only restrict him even more. Players like Gordon and Tyreke Evans are able to play much bigger due to their length.
