6'9 and a terrific, underrated player. Wilt actually said that Zelmo gave him more trouble than anyone. Beaty was strong as hell, a good outside shooter and had a great attitude. Although his knees were worn down (and by "worn down" I mean can't get up in the morning, have to use painkillers every day... god I love how tough NBA players used to be) already during his ABA years (he never dunked, per example), he knew every trick in the book, played dirty and was a great center basically without jumping. He'd elbow you, he'd step on you and when you retaliated, you would get the call, since he knew how to do it when the refs weren't watching.
I love your knowledge of the old school basketball Lamar.
When I was researching Don Buse, the only footage I could find was your Youtube videos.

What can I say - I'm a student of the game. The book "Loose Balls" helps also for these ABA guys.

kenny smith - bball mecca
i figured i could always use another speedy combo guard on the end of my bench. they didnt call this guy the "jet" for nothing. he could fly. kenny was also a deadly 3pt shooter during his peak years with the rockets. he made 142 3's in 1995 at 42%. his career 3pt % is 39.9%.
AND kenny is now reunited with charles barkley on my team adding to the overall entertainment factor of my team.
best season: 18.4ppg 7.4apg 1.4spg 52%fg

Re: Retro Draft: Lamar's pick - Countryboi skipped (x2)
I got bad news for all of you. From the ABA category my pick is Marvin Barnes.
Probably the biggest **** in basketball history as he would have been one of the greatest forwards of all-time, if not for his terrible attitude. Since he is my 15th man, I don't care that he wouldn't show up for games, since I still have a 24/14 guy at his prime. Maybe some of the guys on my team would inspire him to change his ways.
If you don't know about Mr. Marvin "Bad News" Barnes, I'd recommend you to read this blog and see some highlights if you want to:
http://www.mixmakers.net/basketball/lam ... ws-barnes/
This story pretty much sums up Marvin Barnes:
“After the game, I saw [Marvin] in the dressing room and he started giving me his state of the Spirits speech. He told me, ‘Bro, you know what’s wrong with this team? We don’t have any team play. We don’t care about each other…Let me give you an example. Tonight, I had 48 points with two minutes to go. Did anybody pass me the ball so I could get 50? Huh? No, they just kept the ball to themselves and I got stuck on 48.’”

Keep in mind that I'm not dissing him, but what caused the drop from 24/13/2 in the ABA to 8/5/1 in the NBA?

Cocaine's helluva drug. Seriously. Of course the two last seasons of ABA didn't have as good competition as the late 70s NBA after the merger, but that's the case with Marvin. He was just that good. He did cocaine during the game on the bench. That's just outrageous. During the ABA years he didn't lose a step with all of the partying, never sleeping during the night, not coming to practice and drug use. Yet it catches up even with the best ones. Watch the highlights of him in the ABA I did. And then watch these, where he's in the ABA.

A step slower, constantly out of breath and sort of off-balance. You can still see the offensive and rebounding skills though. It's amazing that he could even score 13 after 4 years of a wild lifestyle.

lol I never would've thought of using the playoffs to skirt the 32k minute mark
