Should the Jazz retire #23?

Post#1 » by QuantumMacgyver » Wed Oct 5, 2011 1:58 am

Should the Jazz retire #23 in honor of Sloan's 23 years at the helm? Or maybe there is another number that would be more fitting. They could retire #4, but the Bulls already have it hanging in their rafters.

I don't want the #23 anywhere near Energy Solutions...frankly, I think they should skip the number on rows and seats as well.

 Agreed. Sloan's #4 should hang from the rafters, though.

I'd rather see a picture of a clipboard with Sloans name on the rafters. We're running out of room on the rafters.

I'd be perfectly happy if the only jerseys hanging from the rafters were 12 and 32.

It's certainly nothing against Sloan, but he never wore a Jazz jersey. Find some other way to honor him.

Too many jerseys retired in my IMHO. Hornacek did not deserved it, altough everybody love the guy.
Pistol Pete... well, he was the first star of the Jazz. Dantley deserves it if Hornacek deserves it. Eaton... well, another guy you love, but he was not THAT special. Same with Griffith...

I don't think coaches should have numbers retired. I don't like it for Frank and I wouldn't support it for Jerry. Put a bust of them in the concourse, or even a banner in the arena, but numbers are for players.

Also, Eaton WAS that special. He was the most dominant defender of his era. Ask any of the centers he played against. If Dennis Rodman gets a spot in the Hall of Fame, then Mark Eaton definitely deserves his to have his number hanging from the rafters.

Was special for us, but he was no near of KM or JS, not any legendary C in the league. Understand me... in Lakers he wouldn't have his jersey retired.

Jazz have two numbers retired in Layden and Miller,
then 7 players have his number retired.... and 0 rings.

Lakers have 7 too with multiple rings. Wilt, KAJ, Magic, Worthy, Baylor, West and Goodrich aren't arguable.

Players like Rambis, Green, Cooper, Horry aren't going to have their number retired..

A statue out by Karl and John would be cool as it's impossible to think of one of those three and not the other two. A statue behind John and Karl of SLoan screaming and pointing his iconic finger. Haha

They should have a statue of Sloan pointing towards the lockerroom and chasing the statue of Ostertag who is kicking a chair.
