You're about 50-100 shy of being a lineman. But even those guys are quick

I notice defenders often try to go low in a tackle. I assume that's the standard and something that is taught the day you start playing as a kid (I assume so because I've seen it so much today)?

Does anyone ever try a stand up tackle - like a bear hug type approach? Wrap your arms around them and then once you are locked in, sling them to the ground or use your own weight to drag them down?

Another crap tackle attempt by #59. He was lucky that wasn't a TD.

lineman do when they get a QB that won't go down. Generally, the offensive player is to strong/fast to just wrap up.

A. What does a lineman do?

B. 50-100 shouldn't be a problem. Just tell Mrs Slam to let me off the leash!!

The problem that I have seen with dudes going in low is that you have no choice but to take your eyes off the guy you are trying to tackle and the moment you do that you put yourself in a position of weakness because: 1) you have already committed and if he changes, you cant and 2) you take your eyes off your target.

I know they are different sports, but check some of these tackles out. The guy getting tackled is totally nullified.

we'll throw you out as a blocking tight end slam... you get to block on offensive like one of the fat dudes, but you also get to go out for passes. see #88 and #80 on the panthers.

tackling in the nfl is a lost art. all the players today just want to dive at the players and make the spectacular hit. old school guys will wrap up with arms.

Is there usually this much spite between these two teams?

Cool - thanks for the numbers Fats. I'll watch those two dudes closely from now on.

That makes SO much sense. I'm sure that spear tackle looks awesome when it comes off, but it's a stupidly low percentage move.

The standard when going to a tackle is to keep your head back, put the shoulder pads on the defenders midsection, and drive back with your legs while wrapping up with the arms.

But like Fats said, the majority of them like to just spear tackle people because it gets the team/crowd riled up.

We get the fox game every week which is why I am getting this one (I assume you guys dont get a lot of nationally televised games - sounds familiar!!).

I could also watch the Titans Vs Steelers and the Eagles Vs Bills right now if I wanted to because they are on TV up here too.

the panthers definitely get more respect nationally than the bobcats. we went to the superbowl one year about 8 years ago and made the playoffs maybe 5 times over the past 15 years. we've really only had two awful seasons. just so happens that one of those awful seasons was last year. plus in the nfl small market teams can actually compete fairly with the big market teams.

but generally speaking, we dont get too many national games. maybe 2-3 per season. we will get lots more with cam though. he is going to be a HUGE star.

I get every Panthers game here in Georgia. Well, almost every game. The Falcons games are usually streamed on another channel but once or twice a year they get streamed over the Panthers. Pisses me off but that's what I get for living in Georgia.

Swedd, how about those Gamecockies?

Gonna have to win out if they still want a shot at the NT. Stupid, stupid decision to not bench Garcia sooner. 9 INTs through 5 games? Auburn's defense is just as bad (if not worse) than Kentucky's... should have been a blowout

The Pathers "in between" D is sort of sucky. Their D on the line hasn't been too bad (although Brees has been untouched).....

Edit: HA!! As I was typing that Brees got sacked!! Back to what I was saying..........

and their deep D has been good but it's that in between defense that has been exposed. Brees just keeps popping it over the top and picking up easy receptions. The Panthers have to stop defending so deep and start worrying about that in between area.
