Youre exactly right about moderation. Anything you overly use is abuse and a detriment to normal health. I can see where Neb is heading though. I havent read the entire thread but theres a huge difference between simple and complex sugars. Anything that takes low energy to break down is generally worse off for your body than a complex molecule. Lipids and sugars are prime examples. It all comes back to intake and exertion when your talking about losing weight or becoming healthier. A balanced diet and regular exercise is vastly better than just cutting calories or watching sugar intake.

Plus, you don't know who is reading this thread. Maybe somebody needed a wake up call on their sugar consumption. Sometimes you have to show "extreme" opinions to get somebody to notice something they may be overlooking. I would bet most folks here do not track their sugar intake, so it's perfectly relevant.
Gatorade is fine for you in moderation. The key is most normal consumers dont need it. They dont burn enough off for it to really matter.

Answer the question though. An apple has about 30 grams of sugar in it. Why is an apple ok, but a gatorade plus a multivitamin not ok?

I was replying more on the use of what is "logical" in this thread...logic has to have a correct reasoning to it that takes you down a certain path, and this thread started off assuming we want the same thing, which obviously we don't...some of us want to enjoy ourselves a bit, others want to purge themselves of anything deemed unhealthy or toxic. We each operate with our own logic as per our own goals of what makes us satisfied.
My opinion is the same as yours on moderation. I'm just saying that we can't generalize and say eating or not eating X is illogical or logical. Read Swift's A Modest Proposal, standard high school reading that shows you this.

Nobody expects anybody to be perfect, but "in moderation" is really just a form of an excuse and generally a lack of discipline.

I agree with you for the most part, but when better alternatives are available, the intelligent choice would be to choose the better option. Otherwise in a practical sense, Gatorade and many associated products contain an unnecessary level of sugar.

"Better option" is subjective. Also, what is a necassary level of sugar then?

Re: OT: P90X/Health and Fitness Thread
I've been doing the 200 squats program and my legs are still pretty sore on the off days as I head into week 4. I had this problem in the spring when I first tried doing squads with weights and I was sore for like a week after. I studied the proper technique thoroughly because I know how a bad squat form can ruin your back.
Any thoughts?

Ice your legs after you work out, that should help.
Felt curious so I did 200 squats. That's what rehab will do for you, I guess.

Contrast showers are amazing too. End of your shower, hot as you can stand for 30-60 seconds, cold as you can stand for 30, repeat a few times if you want. Improves circulation and gets blood to those muscles so it helps with recovery/repair.

Re: OT: P90X/Health and Fitness Thread
lol, it is pretty brutal at first...I've gotten so used to it that I can go as hot as my shower goes and then as cold as it goes. You feel incredibly energized after. The hot water loosens your blood vessels and then the cold water restricts them to force blood to circulate.

Re: OT: P90X/Health and Fitness Thread
I think it's reasonable for most folks to shoot for 40g or less of daily sugar intake. In terms of apple vs gatorade/vitamin, I'd probably go with the apple depending on the vitamin or if I was thirsty or not.

Re: OT: P90X/Health and Fitness Thread
so, a girl i like, likes to go on bike rides and wants me to go with her but i haven't ridden a bike since i got my driver's license. Anyone have any cheap bike recommendations? i've been trying for like a week and a half to find something used but that's not working. just something for paved trails.

I had an MMA fighter attempt to D up on me in a basketball game with a box and one defense. He lasted 10 minutes.

This is why I don't buy Apple products. They get lost way easier than Microsoft products.

you're absolutely right, if i had left a Zune laying somewhere, i could go back a week later, wipe the spit off of it and it'd be ready to go.

Zing.
Also, Zunes are pretty awesome. (One thing I'll give Apple is I think the iPod is a better product than it though) Have you ever tried one?

Re: OT: P90X/Health and Fitness Thread
nope, i only listen to mp3 players in 2 places. for music to play drums to for which i use an ipod video that i got for christmas, and working out/ playing soccer by myself for which i used to use a nano that i won in a contest. so i've never had to actually make a decision or try out any mp3 players.
until now...
