Would you trade for Steve Nash?

Post#1 » by scoobs07 » Tue Oct 11, 2011 12:04 am

I think Clipps could really use a pure point guard that could shoot? If we are unsuccessful in getting DWill, CP3 or even Iggy, would you consider doing the following deal:

Clipps get: Nash (12 million), Frye (6 million) and Childress (6 million)
Clipps get a top 5 NBA point guard in Nash. Frye is the perfect compliment to both Blake and DJ. H would back up the 4/5 and get 12-13 ppg off the bench. Childress fills a hole at SF, he is not the shooter we need at th position, but his lack of perimeter shooting is offset by Frye.

Suns get: Josh Smith, Mo Williams, Aminu and Thompkins
They get a good PF in Smith, a decent PG replacement in Mo and two good young prospects at 3 and 4. I think they benefit greatly from getting rid of the Childress contract.

Hawks get: Kaman
They get a true center to put next to Horford, plus be is an expiring deal so if he dont work out they would clear some salary.

I would take Nash as a #3 PG option (and this #3 is coming from a Canadian,) I like the framework but we are giving up too much. Nash is now 37 and his trade valu is going down. I don't want Frye or Childress; Frye is a success in the system he plays in, Childress should have never gone to Italy it stumped his NBA growth.
Nash is only worth Bledsoe or Aminu & Mo. The Clips are in a good position, let players come to us.

I'm just sayin with a point guard of Nash's caliber, free agents would be flocking to us... Might as well capitalize on this amnesty thing and sign some good vets at a bargain price. I we went and got a DWill/CP3/Nash we might be as to sign Rashard Lewis and Vince Carter for like 1 million each, depending on how much they want to win.

Rashard Lewis's game is in the Garbage Can, VC is not an NBA Player anymore. VC is exactly where Tracy NcBaby was 2 years ago.
I love the idea that you are thinking of options, I think there maybe a Golden Nugget in the stack.

^ I'm not talking about giving these guys big bucks, Im talking like 1 million each. I'm not going to expect miracles out of them for that low of a contract, but they are still decent veteran players that will fill a need. Lewis could be the starting SF, get 12 ppg and shoot 38% from 3. Carter would he'll our weak bench and could get another 12 ppg as the 6th man. Rip Hamilton would be good too.

I like what Frye is able to do with the Suns, but he's kind of like a taller slightly glorified version of Brian Cook. Childress could need a change of scenery. He was a big disappointment in Phoenix and is currently not the greatest value. The 2 of them combined maked between $13-14M per year. I'd rather see us go after a better player if we're going to be spending that.

If Nash was about 5 years younger, then it's something to be considered. Nash is kind of like fine wine, but his back and his age is an issue for me. Seeing him laying down when he is out of the game is reminiscent to Sam Cassell in his latter years. He has the system in Phoenix as well as their training staff to help keep him going. We have Jasen Powell. If we could get Nash for Kaman, then I'd take the risk. I was reading a fan-proposed 3 way deal on another board. Kaman would go to the Hawks, Nash to the Clippers and Josh Smith to the Suns. I would totally do something like that as there would be very little risk involved.

^Three way deals are harder to do, but yes that is solid framework for a deal. We still probably would have to at least take back Frye... Maybe something like this:

Clips get: Nash (12.5 million) and Frye (5.8)
Suns get: Smith (12 million), Bledsoe (1.6) and Thompkins (0.75)
Hawks get: Kaman (12.7)
The incentive for the Suns is they save 4 million dollars and they get a good young PF in Smith. Bledsoe and Thompkins are also good young prospects. The Clips and Hawks have already been rumored to be in talks about a Kaman/Smith swap. Clipps could look like this:

PF-Griffin/Diogu/Cook
SF-Gomes/Aminu
C-Jordan/Frye
PG-Nash/Williams
SG-Gordan/Foye/Leslie

If we were to get Nash, I could live with Gomes/ Aminu at SF with Frye/ Mo as 6th/7th men. I would be kind of concerned with the weak defense at PG, and would rather see Mo traded than Bledsoe, but I would be happy either way. Then in the off season, the Clips still get their lottery pick, where they could go for a Harrison Barnes type at PG or for a young PG like Kendall Marshall or Myke Kopango.

I feel like a guy like Nash (older superstar playing at high level) has less trade value than what he contributes to his current team.

OTOH if Phoenix is rebuilding they may let Nash go to a contender via trade. I would love to have him, just depends on the price. If we don't give up too much we would be a playoff team the day we got him.

Kaman/Bledsoe/Thompkins for Nash/Frye would be a good deal. I mean, we would get to keep Aminu and out lottery pick. We still would have our youth, but at the same time have good veterens in the mix. Look how successful Jason Kidd is at like 40 years old!

Kaman + Bledsoe ======= NO!
I see where you are going for Nash, be patient we may get him cheap.

I'm one of the folks that was shocked when the Lakers got Gasol for Brown/etc., so I might be under valueing our talent a bit, but I just try to be open minded about it. You usually have to give up something to get something, so let's just say worse case scenario we get Nash for Kaman and Bledsoe, I would be happy with that...
