OT: Theo Epstein to Cubs for 5 year deal

Post#1 » by Avenger » Sat Oct 1, 2011 9:10 pm

I am shocked, but in last 36 hrs every exec talk to says believe #Redsox will give permssion and Theo will go to #Cubs to be GM

http://twitter.com/#!/joelsherman1

praying this happens, he's made a couple of bad moves but Theo is still an excellent GM, Anthopolous and Friedman are the only guys i would definitely take over him, maybe Jon Daniels in Texas . I don't even know what the **** they're doing in Boston, what happened in September wasn't anybody's fault, good teams can play like **** over the course of a month and blaming the Manger and GM is pathetic

Hope the Red Sox are looking at JP Ricciardi, they've always wanted him? All you JP fan boys who think he's a championship caliber GM if he had a bigger payroll might find out if that is really true.

It doesn't take much to seem like you're a good GM when you're spending $150+ M on major league payroll every season.

Hopefully he sticks around for a few more years to cripple the franchise even more with ridiculous contracts.

Overall, Epstein's done a pretty good job. He might be benefiting from a high payroll, but so do teams like the Mets, Dodgers, Cubs, Angels etc... and most of those teams suck and/or didn't make the playoffs.

If you recall, there was a few years in which Epstein left the Sox. The Sox went south pretty fast during those years, and Epstein returned and the Sox was on the rise again.

I'd go as far as saying if the Jays didn't have AA, Epstein would be my first choice as GM here (assuming he's available and willing).

I don't disagree, but Epstein left for about 3 months.

If he goes to the Cubs, he'll pay 250M+ for Pujols, haha

Yeh, I see JP taking over Boston. They wanted him when Theo
Way back anyway. Also JP is apparently very reputable in the
MLB. He was a candidate for the Cubs along with a few more.

Honestly I think he would do just fine there too

Well, that's interesting because he hasn;t been a serious candidate for any GM job since he was fired by the Jays. Granted, you can only go so far based on MLBTR but those guys find out everything and i haven't read a single rumor about Ricciardi actually being a serious contender for a job let alone interviewing for one.

He's a special assistant to the GM for one of the worst franchises in Baseball that is more or less bankrupt(which happened a few months after he joined the Mets BTW, not saying he had anything to do with it obviously but for people who believe in curses/bad luck....). Before that he was paid to run his big mouth on ESPN and even they got tired of him.

LA has a job opening too, I see Cubs as stressful as a Boston position. Maybe he wants to downgrade the pressure? Or maybe he will take it as a challenge...

Since when does Weems bring any kind of defense to the court anyway?

I fully endorse Ricciardi taking over the Boston job. Make it happen.

Cubs will probably give him free reign to sign whoever he wants, and he will throw a **** of money at some FA and be declared a genius for turning them around.

The Cubs do not have an unlimited budget and will not give Epstein blank cheques; period.

Epstein made a ton of mistakes with his money, but the Red Sox were still one of the best teams in baseball every season. Having virtually unlimited resources makes everything easier.

Whoever takes the job will be in a great position. The Sox could promote from within (in fact that seems most likely), but maybe they'll go after Beane or Ricciardi.

Epstein is going to have to develop an even better scouting organization than he did in Boston because he won't be able to spend his way through mistakes in Chicago.

After reading this I wouldn't want him as GM of my team.
Looks like he should shoulder most of the blame for the collapse. GM sets the culture of the team, and it looks like nobody on this team besides Pedroia could have a flying fig about winning. It could be the most "Me" team ever.

all that stuff is pure bull, its hilarious how none of this nonsense came out when the Red Sox were on pace to win a 100 games. These idiot reporters and fans don't understand how Baseball works, good teams can play like **** over the course of a month without it being anybody's fault
