Slow Day: Which Stars for Love?

Post#1 » by shrink » Fri Oct 14, 2011 11:49 pm

EDIT: If not Bosh, which stars would you swap for Love?

=======================================================================

MIN GETS: Chris Bosh
MIA GETS: Love + Webster + Brad Miller

MIN gets more of a superstar

MIA gets more of a super complimentary-player.

Personally I hate it, but I understand our need for a superstar first option, and I'm not sure Love will ever be that. Now, I realize LeBron and Wade woudln't allow it, and it'd set a horrible precedent for MIA ("sign with us -- but we may ship you to MIN!") but I think Bosh has more value on a team that needs a superstar than as a third option.

Bosh is not a superstar, he's just paid like one. He's an elite mid range jump shooter who has his moments in other facets of his game, and can't be trusted in the clutch on defense. We could do better than that for Love. And at least Love has some measure of toughness about him, our number one option can't be a whiny little b****, who admittedly cries after regular season losses. We need a guy with a ball buster mentality, Bosh ain't it.

I'd rather take the chance that Love improves his post game enough to be a Bosh-level number 1 option for half the price.

No. I think Love is a better piece to winning a championship than Bosh is, and his potential to improve at age 22/23 is much better than Bosh.

1/2 the price for one season -- a season that might not get played.

After that we're going to have to pay Love the max, unfortunately.

Still, I'd rather just keep our fan favorite and rare MN media darling.

Love's max is still less than Bosh's max, considering it would be his first big contract.

Yeah, by about 1m per year, if the deal is like the CBA now.

Actually, it's more like 3-4. Assuming Durant's deal is the max for a guy on his first big contract, Love would make 13 mil to Bosh's 17, 15 to his 19, etc.

I doubt the max on the new CBA will be that high also.

Anyway, even at the same price, I'd stick with Love. Just never been a fan of Bosh.

I love that you guys almost immediately started talking about salary! It's a hard call now, because the new CBA may require rollbacks on current salaries, and who knows if the next one will have longer deals on new max or near-max deals. Still, I think we can safely assume that Bosh would cost more salary. I actually think for MIN, Love might be a better draw than Bosh as well.

I guess my next question would be .. what superstars would you trade Love for - straight up? Here's a head-start, from last march's trade value poll:

1. Lebron James
2. Kevin Durant
3. Dwight Howard
4. Derrick Rose
5. Blake Griffin
6. Chris Paul
7. Dwyane Wade
8. Kobe Bryant
9. Russell Westbrook
10. Dirk Nowitzki
11. Deron Williams
12. Carmelo Anthony
13. Amare Stoudemire
14. John Wall
15. LaMarcus Aldridge
16. Al Horford
17. Kevin Love
18. Rajon Rondo
19. Pau Gasol
20. Eric Gordon
21. Chris Bosh
22. Andrew Bogut
23. Stephen Curry
23. Brook Lopez

I'd take John Wall/Eric Gordon for K-Love.

I do that because they are on par with Love talent wise (Wall has more potential and talent imo) and we have a group of players that can play the PF position and Randolph has shown (Although it was a small sample size) that he can rebound at a good rate at the PF position, but not at an elite rate like Love, but nobody in the league really can besides a couple of players.(Howard/Humphries/Griffin)

The max for Love will still be quite a bit less than Bosh's salary, and that's assuming the unlikely event that the CBA stays exactly the same.

I would take:

1. Lebron James
2. Kevin Durant
3. Dwight Howard
4. Derrick Rose
5. Blake Griffin
6. Chris Paul
7. Dwyane Wade

8. Kobe Bryant -- no. I just hate the guy
9. Russell Westbrook -- the play-offs worry me. Is this the guy you build a team around?
10. Dirk Nowitzki
11. Deron Williams - worries about his allegience to MIN. Maybe that should be a concern for all
12. Carmelo Anthony
13. Amare Stoudemire - I don't find him a legit superstar
14. John Wall
15. LaMarcus Aldridge - comparable, but LA's not a star yet, and MIN likes Love
16. Al Horford - comparable, but position specificity

methinks Bosh has a 100% chance of bailing when his contract ends. Not that I think Love is absolutely committed to staying in Minnesota for life, but I bet he's more loyal than Bosh. I wouldn't bother trading Love (obviously I would for LBJ) since he's young, proven, healthy, and restricted.

I think Aldridge is better, but I like Love's potential more. Deron worries me for a lot of reasons. And quite frankly I like having someone as young as Love, gives us a bigger window.

I'd probably knock off Paul and Wade due to age and injury history, but otherwise I agree with Narf's list.

Money being even I'd rather have Love than Chris Bosh. Guy is just soft and a terrible rebounder/defender for a guy his size.

Durant, Howard, Rose, Griffin, Wade, James, and Wall.

The debate between Love and Westbrook is giving me a headache. I'm leaning towards Love, but the logjam at point guard makes the decision a bit easier. I'm going to probably get ripped on for this, but Westbrook is pretty underrated especially if you compare him to Rose. Hopefully Westbrook can bounce back from his awful playoff run.

Stupid lockout, I think I'm going to make a few threads on the GB to pass the time.
