Who to drop?

Post#1 » by Maritimer » Sat Oct 15, 2011 4:45 pm

After trying valiantly to trade 2 for 1 this week to free up a roster spot (and apparently failing), I'm going to have to cut someone to pick up a QB for the week (probably Flacco). Here are my RB/WRs, from whom someone has to get the axe:

RB - Turner, Greene, Law Firm, Ridley, Lynch
WR - Smith (CAR), Maclin, Colston, Boldin, S. Rice

It's clearly down to Rice, Boldin, Lynch or Ridley. If BenJarvis Green-Ellis is healthy, I think it has to be Ridley and I'll hope to pick him back up off waivers this week. However, if Green-Ellis' is a late scratch because of his toe, who do I cut?

EDIT - There is an alternate plan. I can trade Rice and Ridley for Antonio Gates. Rivers is my current QB and I have Gronkowski as my TE, so Gates would be a luxury lottery ticket. At first glance it seems like a no-brainer, since I probably have to cut Ridley anyway and I have the WR depth to part with Rice. However if I trade Ridley then I guarantee that I can't pick him back up this week and I feel pretty strongly that he'll take over for the Law Firm by the end of the year. What to do?

I suppose I have one more option -- I have Crosby going at 1 pm as my kicker. I could drop him now for Flacco, and if the matchup looks close as of the end of the 1 pm games I could drop Ridley for a kicker then. He has 6 players going in the early games, with AP, Sproles and Rackers as his late players. I'd only have 3 players in the early games -- Turner, Smith (CAR) and Maclin -- so it might be a risky strategy.

I've also put in a last ditch effort to trade for Romo and Bryant. The owner has Vick, so Romo is on his bench, and he's hurting for skill positions so I've offered Colston and Rice. All players playing this week are late games, so if it goes through, I'm in the clear (and, man, with Smith, Maclin and Bryant as my top 3 WRs, I'd be pretty much set at that position for the year... and it's a keeper league).

EDIT - Decided to deal for Gates, giving up Sidney Rice and Ridley. Hoping he's back next week against the Jets and I can use the new roster spot to pick up another lottery ticket like Hardesty or even Moreno (can't see him being benched all year).
