Raiders set to acquire Carson Palmer
The Raiders and Bengals are close to a trade that would send Carson Palmer to Oakland, according to FOX's Jay Glazer. rotoworld/Jay Glazer on Twitter
Per Glazer, the deal is expected to be completed by today's 4pm ET deadline with Cincy receiving a first-round pick in 2012 and a future conditional pick. He adds that Hue Jackson's close, personal relationship with Bengals owner Mike Brown is what got the Bengals to move off their stubborn stance. Jackson was the Bengals' wide receivers coach from 2004-06. Palmer may need a week to get his feet under him, but the 31-year-old will give an Oakland passing game that was set to go in the tank under Kyle Boller some life. Hold your Raiders wideouts.

There is not a good enough fail image on the internet to describe this.

Re: Raiders set to acquire Carson Palmer
I am shocked, I admit it. Never thought Mike Brown would give in, but I think his friendship with Al Davis played a role here.
Y'all know I have not been a Palmer fan in recent years but he is better than Kyle Boller or Terrelle Pryor. And he fits the OAK offense with his play action and pump and go skills.
My Cincy people tell me it is indeed a 1st this year and a 2nd next year that escalates but they don't expect it to hit those escalators. That means OAK has a 2nd and a 7th in the next draft, and they used their 1st and 3rds on different QBs. Don't forget that Jason Campbell is a free agent after this year.

Re: Raiders set to acquire Carson Palmer
As a Raiders fan, I love it. We weren't going to win with Boller or Pryor, so Palmer was basically the best thing out there. We give up a draft pick (or two), but the team wants to win now and we are definitely a contender in the West.
Palmer can throw the deep ball, and with DHB emerging as a damn good WR (and our #1), we needed someone who could get him the ball all over the field.

Re: Raiders set to acquire Carson Palmer
Wow I underestimated the Raiders draft. They do not have a pick in the draft except for a 5th, and they used three 2012 draft picks on QBs. Forgot they traded their 4th for Campbell.
I should point out the deal is not done yet and there is still time for Brown to change his mind.

They'll have compensation picks for Nnamdi and Gallery, though, right?

They should, yes. I would suspect they get a 3rd and a 4th out of that. They issue those at the Combine.

Damn, that's alot to give up. But it looks like Jason Campbell's time in Oakland is done, since Palmer's contract lasts until 2014.

I like this for my Raiders because puts the team in a better position to save the season. Palmer is an upgrade over the backups and over Jason Campbell.

Re: Raiders set to acquire Carson Palmer
I'm speechless on this one. When can we even expect Palmer to be ready to start for this team? I mean on paper he is an upgrade but my memory of Palmer isn't exactly the greatest one. Certainly overpaid for him and it's a damn shame for Campbell, it looked like he finally found a home.

Re: Raiders set to acquire Carson Palmer
This is just embarrasing from Oakland's end and the kind of move that makes franchises who've been in the dirt, stay there. When I heard Palmer to Oakland I thought it'd be for basically a 4th or 5th round pick. Absolutely unreal. This is some Isiah Thomas level ****

Re: Raiders set to acquire Carson Palmer
The Raiders jumped the gun with this move. First off the Raiders are not contenders with or without Palmer. This team is not in the situation to go "all in" and win now. Last season was the first season they reached .500 in almost a decade it seems. They still have to build the squad up and you do that with drafting, and they just traded away a 1st round.
Secondly, this move is just for the Raiders to reach a wild card spot. Is it really worth a 1st round pick to reach the wild card? Maybe, just maybe Carson gets rejuvenated in Oakland but its very likely that he is on the decline. Lets face it, if the Raiders want to be a legitimate contender for the superbowl, Palmer is just a stop gap at quarterback, and he is not the future. Add that to the fact we are six weeks into the season and your throwing a quarterback who was "retired" back into the NFL as your starting quarterback. He needs an off season with this offense.
As I said only one way to describe this move and its that the Raiders jumped the gun. They would have been better off being patient through this season and build more through the draft. Obviously they don't expect Jason Campbell to lead them and neither does anybody else for that matter, but they would have been better off for the future to draft a young quarterback build around him or at the very least look for other alternatives at quarterback. I don't believe a 1st rounder for Palmer is the answer.
I have a hard time believing that Palmer can prove me wrong even with an off season and a fresh start next season. Is he an upgrade? on paper yes but it wasn't a smart move because he can't take you all the way. I don't I guess well just have to see how this one unfolds.

I like the deal for Oakland. If Palmer comes in and plays like his old self, it's going to be a steal. If not, well, Arizona traded a Pro Bowl corner and a 2nd rounder for an unestablished (at least compared to Palmer) Kevin Kolb. Both teams benefit from this deal.

Re: Raiders set to acquire Carson Palmer
I can't believe how much value the Bengals have gotten for him, I think the Raiders are carrying on in Al Davis' spirit. Feel so bad for Jason Campbell, thought he found a team that suited him perfectly.
Also, if this was the price that Oakland were willing to pay for Palmer, did they consider a one-year rental of Kyle Orton? I know he has a $6 million contract for this year but considering that they could probably offer their remaining 4th and maybe a conditional 6th for him I think that would've been the better deal.

Re: Raiders set to acquire Carson Palmer
This is the worst trade in the history of sports - at least from the time it was made. I am dead serious. Its that illogical. There isn't a single redemable factor to it.
Bad player - check
Overpaid - check
Made out of desperation - check
Giving extreme value to a team with no leveredge - check
Mortaging the future of your young and talented team - check
Trade for an old player with limited potential to improve - check
Poor fit for the rest of your team - check
Carson Palmer is a terrible player. I wouldn't have traded a fourth round pick for him. He is extremely overpaid, floats balls worse than any QB in the league, is a terrible leader, has Jay Cutleresque body language, bad accuracy, checks down all the time, and is just overall a walking pick six machine. Oh yeah hes also old. Did I mention he sucks?
The Raiders will be thinking 'What the hell did we just do' within three weeks - I gauruntee it. He will pick six the Raiders out of the playoff race.
I've seen every game of his over the last 2 years. Hes at the stage of his career that Jake Delhomme and Donovan McNabb were in three seasons ago - about to break, not break out.
Jason Campbell and David Garrard are better quarterbacks. I get that Campbell is injured, but he should be the starter next year over him. He wont be anymore, because after giving the keys to house away for Palmer they have to roll with him, but if there was a QB battle in camp I would be shocked if Palmer could beat out Campbell.

Re: Raiders set to acquire Carson Palmer
And you know what the worst part is? The Bengals are getting a first rounder from the Raiders, and at least a second rounder the following year, and the Browns made it happen.
If the Browns don't injure Campbell this trade doesn't happen. I'm literally sick. I wanted to take a half day from work when I found out about this. If Al Davis was still alive everyone would be ripping him apart for doing this.
