Since none of LeBron, Wade or Bosh have a max contract, I don't see how this would affect anything.

Well i said something along those lines, but the main point of the article was that owners wanted to prevent "super teams" from being present in the NBA and what they were pushing for would not allow Miami to keep their 2 all-stars, and Bosh .

This 15 hour meeting is nothing comparable to other meetings, this meeting has GOT to be MUCH more productive. Other meetings had ended shortly which included yelling and nobody getting anywhere, but this meeting wasn't shortened, maybe there was yelling, but I'm sure this late, they're working something out and they're seeing each others differences. #Hope

All so called "parity" measures that I've seen proposed would only make Miami stronger.

Perhaps the no sign and trade thing? That was batted around a few weeks ago.

A source also informed him that the meeting was ending 3 hours ago. But hopefully they can work out an agreement on the luxury tax on the cap.

The whole point of a mediator is that the two sides don't interact, get heated and blowing up at each other. A mediator is there to try and rationalize, take in both sides and meet somewhere in the middle.

IMO its either "Progress has been made substantially" or "Both sides still have large unsettled disputes", either way, there's no deal being made at 2am EST. Waste of time staying up.

If the owners are willing to give in on the BRI I don't see why the players wouldn't give in on the escalating luxury tax and run. If teams are affraid to spend into the luxury tax the players still make the same amount of money because the owners have to cut a check at then end of the year. It also acts like increased revenue sharing.

Maybe it is the case the union is representing the Agents and a few of their big clients. As I think the unspent portions of the BRI would be spread around, where as the sum of the contract or contracts of that the tax paying teams are able to give out, will only go to those players.

Well, I think it would. There will be a few grossly overpaid, but there will not be as many overpaid. Like if there was no max, and Lebron Wade, Kobe, Dwight, were paid at their market value with say a 60 million cap, you'd see teams with offers of 30 mil a season, and you wouldn't see the trend to team up. You'd see the trend to lead their teams, where the rest of the money is shared by the other players. But the progressive system would need a ceiling at some point. And, as has been mentioned, you'd think at some point the agents and rank and file players will realize how much this hurts the majority of them.
