If we were the #1 seed last year

Post#1 » by Imadogg » Thu Oct 20, 2011 8:51 am

Random and ultimately a meaningless question, but might as well have some meaningless discussion about it.

If we got the 1 seed last year (switched with Spurs obviously).. would we have beat the Grizzlies? 2nd round, would we have beat the 2011 Thunder with our 2011 Lakers? Mavs would then be in the WCF instead of 2nd round and we'd lose to them if we got that far.

What do you guys think.. were the Mavs the only western conference team who could beat us last year (the 2011 champs dethroning the reigning champs), or would one of the teams full of young guns possibly (probably?) have taken us down?

I think if we were the #1 seed the Grizzlies would give us a run for our money but we would ultimately make it past them.

The Thunder on the other hand is a really hard one to decide.. I could still see us getting pass them even though Russell Westbrook would probably destroy us in that series.

For some reason I could only envision the Mavs taking out the Lakers in the West. Maybe it's just because they laid such a whooping on us in that series :x

P.S. Imadogg I remember you posting in the Lakersnations Forums. I recently went back there and everything is completely dead, do you know what happened over there?

It's a tough call... it depends on how personal the issues with the team were. I could very easily see us coming together after a tough series against the Grizz to beat the Thunder and have, at least, a better shot at beating the Mavs.

It wouldn't change much, we'd probably be tired from beating the Grizzlies and the Thunder because those would be some tough series to beat since they are both talented. The Mavs would still probably beat us out if we were the #1 seed.

It was just the Mavs yr they would've beat the Lakers no matter the Lakers rank in the playoffs.

With the way Pau was playing I think we would of got swept by the Grizzles. Zach Randolph would of murdered Pau.

My name was KuYaJL then I changed it to Louizzle. You probably don't know me since I lurked a lot and only posted when I felt I had to. But anyways I was just curious because that forum was poppin' when it was first created. It's sad to see it completely die.

If we played like the way we did vs Mavs, then I honestly think Thunder would've knocked us out in the 2nd round nevertheless.

Wouldn't have made one difference if we were seeded #1, we still would've had the same results no title. We had home court against the Mavs and still lost. We we're deprived on defense most of the playoffs, couldn't generate stops when we needed to even against the Hornets. We won that series because of matchups the Hornets couldn't contend with.

Memphis would've been a even worse headache than the Hornets, simply because they had the front line to confront us with. The way Zach was playing, it would've been problems.Winning that series would have us facing the Thunder in Round 2, and the Spurs facing the Mavs. The Thunder woke us up last year, this year they were much better and hungry. I still feel we may have won the series, but meeting the Mavs in the WCF after facing two young teams would've drained us.

No difference. Our defense was horrible and the way Zach Randolph played & Pau's play or lack thereof, we probably would have been gone in the 1st round.

Zach Randolph would have smashed pau, and bynum would have gotten ejected for tossing mike conley instead of jj barea.

If we played like how we played against the hornets vs the Grizzlies we would have had a very tough 7 game series in our hands that could have gone both ways. We just weren't all that good last year...plain and simple.
