Aaron Rodgers is the best NFL player ever

Post#1 » by Roger Murdock » Mon Oct 24, 2011 2:19 am

Aaron Rodgers has:

The best regular season passer rating off all time
The best post season passer rating of all time
The lowest inteception % in NFL history
The highest touchdown % of any QB of the last 40 years.
The highest yards per attempt of any QB in the last 40 years
The highest adjusted net yards per pass attempt of any qb in history
The 4th highest completion % of any quarterback ever
A superbowl MVP in only his third year as a starter

He will win an MVP this year and his team is the clearcut superbowl favorite. Obviously its premature to say hes the greatest player to ever play in the NFL. He needs more longevity and to rack up more awards, but its certainly in play by the time his career is over.

However - that doesn't mean hes not better than everyone else has ever been to play a game.

If I had to pick any player ever to win a superbowl for my football team I am taking Aaron Rodgers, and if hes not at the very least in your top 5 then you are crazy.

I know you're not a Packer fan, so what team do you root for?

I am a die hard Browns fan.

The Lions are my second favorite team since I grew up watching Barry Sanders and live in Detroit. I am completely impartial on this and just calling it like I see it. Aaron Rodgers over the last two seasons has been more impressive to me than Brady or Manning ever were.

The stats show that when Aaron Rodgers drops back to pass hes more likely to complete a pass, get huge yards, throw a touchdown, and not throw an interception than anybody else ever.

Well Brady and Manning have both had this type of season before with QB rating of 120 or so and 50 and 49. Brady put up 36 TDs and 4 INTs last season. Rogers is on pace for like 45 TDs and 7 INTs. It would rival Manning and Brady's top season but wouldn't alone put him over them.

You aren't wrong in that he is one of the top players of all time but what he is doing isn't unprecedented. He is however playing by far and away better than any player in the league so far this season. In terms of how he can beat you and QB attributes, he might just be the best ever. He has never had that offense Brady had with Moss and Welker but he has a lot of weapons himself, and he knows how to use them.

Way too early for this. He's not the first QB to put up big numbers and we're dealing with a small sample size. The Colts are putting together a great argument for Peyton Manning right now.

This is just silly.

Stop.

edit: stop as in slow down on the rodgers love. I like the guy, I think he's a great qb, already better than favre, but the best player ever?

I touched on it in the picks column this week:
Green Bay is gunning for a perfect season and their own QB, Aaron Rodgers, is playing at a level of sustained greatness that is almost unprecedented. In his last 16 games (including the playoffs last year) Rodgers has a QB rating of 119.7. Peyton Manning topped that total in his 2004 season, but consider that Rodgers went 4-0 in the playoffs while Manning went 1-1 after that season, plus Rodgers left the Detroit loss last year early. Go back one more game and the total rises to 124.8, which tops Manning's record number. Rodgers is at 122.4 for this season, which tops Manning's mark. The way that Rodgers seems in complete command no matter what the defense throws at him is just awesome, using that word literally

I'm not smart enough to figure how this game changes his 16-game rating but I have to think it puts him higher than Manning's mark. Some zealous Packer fan can punch in the numbers for you, they like that sort of stuff 8-)

I like and respect what cb4 wrote and I don't think it's wrong, but I do kinda think that the manner in which Rodgers is doing it is probably more impressive to me than Brady or Manning or Steve Young in their period of peak greatness. It seems like Rodgers just cannot miss or make a bad read at all. I think that kind of ruthless perfectionism has to be so demoralizing for the opponents. You can play the perfect defense and he still goes out and beats it. I remember thinking that of Young during his great season and Brady for some of 2007 but never anyone else. I hope people are appreciating it because we might never see it again.

Besides INT% not even close. Hell Brady has probably been even better this year than last, and 07 was clearly his best year.

Aaron Rodgers is averaging almost 2 yards a pass more this season, is on pace for more TDs, has a higher completion % by 5+, and is a hell of a better scrambler compared to 2010 Brady. Not to mention Rodgers is hardly throwing any picks anyway, which would be Bradys main advantage.

Brady's 2007 season is certainly up there for best seasons ever. I still would take Rodgers though and I think giving him Moss would be the most unfair thing ever.

OH I am loving every last second of it. I am a huge packers fan and would love nothing more than to argue that Rodgers is the GOAT QB and player but now is not the time. At least not 7 games into the season. He could throw up 2-3 stinkers and all of a sudden it is a great season and not a legendary one. Let him finish this season at this pace and then maybe repeat as SB MVP and get season MVP and then put up his name in GOAT talks.

I think giving the packers an Adrian Peterson would be even deadlier.

I'm not saying hes the GOAT - I'm saying hes the BOAT.

It would have been fine to say Michael Jordan was the best NBA player ever in 1991, but not the greatest ever at least not yet. We are in the 1991 MJ stage with Aaron Rodgers right now.

He's sitting at a qb rating of 125.7 right now.

I misread that Roger, I thought you were arguing he's more likely not to throw a interception than anybody ever. Which is why I brought up brady last year.

All I'm saying is you all, and by you all, I mean 2 people, are going overboard with this rodgers love. Slow it down, he's had 1 and a half great years and that makes him the best player in the history of the NFL? You're a smart fan, you have to realize how silly of a statement that is.

If you want to say, he's on his way to becoming the best player ever, fine, that's an opinion, he very well could. But to deem him the best player ever right now is ridiculous.

Like icness said and Roundmound brought up, just enjoy his run. **** changes, brady was on his way to have another 07 like year then he tore his ACL. Manning going for another MVP run, he's out for the year. So on and so on.

I am curious to see what Brady and Mannings QB ratings were like 7 games into their historical seasons.

All three of Rodgers INTs this year were on target passes to WRs that hit their hands and bounced into the hands of defensive players.
