You're overstating our "disdain" for Verlander. What he did this season wasn't new, it's what he's done for the last 3 seasons. We knew he was great before ESPN told you he was great earlier this season.
Verlander's much more valuable on a per-start basis, but Bautista's more valuable over a season. You can leave the word "better" out of it entirely if you want. You don't appreciate how good Bautista has been.

I still think Verlander is one of the top 3-4 pitchers in all of baseball. He's not old by any means can throw in the high 90's with ease and has been a dominate pitcher (yes against some weaker divisions) but still the guy is a true ace. I get why people don't want to move Jose for him since Jose is a top 3 RF in all of baseball maybe the best but to say we turn it down easily is homerish to a degree
edit I would also think if we had the chance to take Robby Cano for Jose it's a great deal for us. We get a great young 2nd baseman who has tons of power and I feel is easily one of the best young players hands down in the majors today. Trading to a division rival would be tough though but I think getting Cano would be too much to pass up on

You won't get an agreement from those who think the bat is more valuable than pitching. Same reason you will find those in Colorado say they wouldn't trade Tulowitzki for Verlander. It's not homerish, its just your perception of pitching vs. bats.
