Wouldn't the net effect of this result in deeper pools of talent in each draft with end-of-lottery picks having a lot more potential value than they do now?

A rule like this would seem to help rebuilding teams and increase the value of draft picks in trades. A losing team could enter a draft with a high lotto and middling pick and end up with 2 quality players.

Even second-rounders would be worth a lot more. You'd have players that would have gone 15-30 previously available at picks 30-45.

To me, this seems like it would help improve competitive balance.

New amnesty clause is a big deal for trades, unless they add a provision that it must be used on players under contract by the team at the time of the new CBA.

They could probably add a 3rd round as well, with the deeper talent pool.

1st round: guaranteed contract

2nd round: 1 year D-leauge contract (partially guaranteed), if called up salary becomes Rookie minimum (10% lower than NBA experience minimum)

3rd round: Full Training Camp invite

It would add excitement, development within organization.

I'm just waiting for the report of Paul Allen storming the room and shouting "Yo man, **** this! United we stand man wtf!?" and killing any hopes of an agreement being reached.

Some more KG or Paul Allen is what would end all this compromising.

There is a reason that the groups get smaller at the end negotiations.

KG Kobe Allen etc. All provide good retoric for each side to say how united each side is and how they won't budge to get deal done.

now that we actually down to the brass tacks, the real negotiators are the only ones left in the room.

Uh oh.

Chris_Broussard Chris Broussard
Talks btwn the players & owners just ended. Split of BRI is still the issue. Neither side budging. Players still at 52, owners at 50.

Weren't the players willing to take a 50/50 split earlier on? *sigh*

They should have the BRI allocated on a sliding scale based on the league hitting certain revenue goals. BRI for players could be up to 52% in a good year, as low as 50% if the league loses money.

I think the players were willing to do a band that began at 50 and stretched up to 52.5. The owners have refused to go over 50, period. At least, that's my understanding of what's been reported.

Someone get Paul Allen a popsicle and tell him to sit in the corner.

If everything is done except for the BRI, I think the players should vote on the deal now. Holding up their season and pay for 2 percent? Really? <SMH>

Not that I necessarily want a quick settlement, but I still expect one. This is just a normal negotiating tactic just before the end. The owners sense the players want to get a deal done, and will be bastards about closing the gap. Patience, people!

I haven't seen anyone other than Broussard tweet that the talks are definitively over. Alan Hahn said he heard they were on the verge of breaking up, but nothing since then. So let's hope they're still talking.

WindhorstESPN Brian Windhorst
League source said talks broke when players wouldn't accept less than 52% of BRI. No talks scheduled. More cancellations today.
