Re: Leafs Regular Season Discussion
So glad we didn't get Richards. I changed my mind on Kadri, I think he's better off in the AHL putting up big numbers. We can use him as trade bait at the deadline, or just let him try and crack the line-up again next fall. His stock is only going to suffer playing on the 3rd line here. Frattin is just a much more stable presence on the ice.
Tonight was probably our best game of the year.

Burke better be on the phone with Maloney about Turris.

Grabo has been really on this week. Thank God, as we can't survive on Kessel alone.

What a game.
Each time the Pens scored, the Leafs responded, and what a performance from the Monster.

Hearing Bob Cole last night was so awesome. More Cole and less Hughson. And please get rid of Healy. UGH!

Komisarek is directly responsible for two goals against and somehow the local media praises him. Sounds like Burke has them all under control. Hopefully someone bites soon.
It's relieving to finally have a 4th line that deserves ice time.

hughson is fine imo. but cole is often doing habs games on saturday nights anyway (which he prefers iirc). cole is getting old and makes quite a few mistakes, but he still has the classic voice everyone loves.

True on both counts.
Komi is the weakest link....
Just wait until Armstrong comes back and Colbourne forces a promotion... we are deep!
Is anybody here a marine biologist?

god, what a weak 3rd goal on gustavsson...absolute back-breaker. he makes some outstanding saves but they are negated by his inability to stop seemingly harmless shots from ending up in the back of the net.

Re: Leafs Regular Season Discussion
So the Leafs sent Frattin down and brought up Crabb. Can't really blame them for doing that. Frattin's ice time has been cut since Connolly came back and he hasn't really done much recently anyways. At least with the Marlies he'll get the ice time and PP opportunities. Hopefully we see a Kadri/Colborne/Frattin line on the Marlies. Crabb definitely won't be scoring like he has in the AHL but he's a hard worker and he's fine for the 7-10 minutes he'll be playing.

Re: Leafs Regular Season Discussion
eh...i'm all for having guys develop in the NHL to cut their teeth.
still not sure why you give time to guys like Brown, Dupuis, Rosebum and Orr (the whole 4th line concept always blows my mind...like, teams actively put out 3 untalented players to "shut down" other teams' untalented line. and when i say "shut down", i mean "skate around in such a messy manner that nothing transpires on either end of the ice for 45 seconds") when you have someone with some speed and skill like Frattin who can develop.
bringing Crabby Joe back up makes sense pointwise but not futurewise.
i liked what Frattin showed during his limited opportunities.
on the positive side, having CoBo, Kadri and Frattin playing for the Marlies should give their attendance a giant boost. right? anyone?....

Re: Leafs Regular Season Discussion
The idea of the 4th line or checking line is more about balance in a lineup more than anything. There are only 60 minutes in a game and 12 forwards getting those minutes. Generally your top 2 lines will get the majority of those minutes and the oher 2 lines get the rest. I understand that you want scoring threats on every single line but that's just not gonna happen, no team has that. Talented scorers won't be happy playing 6-10 minutes a game. You need to have the grinders who can bring energy. The Dupuis/Steckel/Brown line has actually been quite good for the Leafs so they're not really a bum line.

It appears the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers have been talking trade.
According to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com, a source said Glen Sather's club can be counted among those who have recently chatted with the Maple Leafs. It's not a stretch to assume discussions centered around talent on the blue line -- of which the Leafs have plenty and the Rangers not nearly enough.
Blueliners Cody Franson and Carl Gunnarsson are considered the top candidates to be shipped out of Toronto. Unless severe injury strikes, GM Brian Burke is going to make such a deal happen this season. The only question is, when?

Re: Leafs Regular Season Discussion
I don't think there should be any way the Leafs should be trading Gunnarsson right now, especially with the way he's been playing with Phanuef. I watched an interview with Phanuef last night, and he called Gunnarsson one of the more underrated defenseman in the NHL, and I'm pretty inclined to agree.
If we're trading Franson, I'm going to assume we're going to be getting a pick back.
