Why not Chalmers?

Post#1 » by Juicy Juice » Mon Oct 31, 2011 1:28 am

I don't get it. I know there are better options out there that can be available (Hinrich) but out of all the players that have played on this team, I feel Chalmers has been better. Bibby was absolutely terrible.

Hinrich isn't available, and Chalmers has been given chances. Last year, he started off the year injured, played horribly until the post season, and finally stepped up. He's being given the chance this year too, but he needs to be consistent. The team has to have a backup plan though. That is a must...

Chalmers actually stepped up BIG time in the Finals. I think he's more than enough. I think it's time that we understand that were not going to get a who we want at PG. Yeah it would be great to get guys like Billups or Brooks, but at the price he costs, Chalmers is a very valuable piece to the puzzle.

And lately Chalmers has been practicing with LeBron and Wade soaking up the much needed info and experience.

Agree on Chalmers and consistency. That's what is really holding him back.

We better tell Bibby to go take a hike if he wants to return here. If he's not hitting his open shots he's absolutely worthless. At least Chalmers can do other things if his shot is off - like defend.

At best Bibby is a 3rd string PG. Maybe 2nd string, but I think we've seen enough of him in a Heat uniform. Hopefully Norris Cole can show something to the coaching staff, if not find a vet not named Bibby or Arroyo.

Chalmers needs better ballhandling skills and passing ability

if he can become above average with those things, then he'll be good enough

Our SG and SF are two of the best of all time at those two things at their position so we don't really need anymore ball handling and passing. Just hit from long range and play good defense

Heat tried that but then you realize that there are only 5 players on the floor and if your 2 best players are gonna be ball handling then a defense is just gonna pack the paint and dare your shooters to shoot... and then we get the NBA Finals

I'm not putting any faith in that amnesty clause happening. I think Rio needs to get his handle to the point where he can bring the ball up the court against a press without needing help. That's my main issue with him. Otherwise, this lockout should make sure he is 100% healed from the high-ankle sprain, and he should gain a little more explosiveness. PEACE.

If he builds on the fearless and aggressive play that he exhibited in the NBA Finals, Miami will be just fine. That said, I would love to see Norris Col develop and reach his full potential as well.

The Heat did not lose the Finals because of Chalmers.

You kind of made my point. If they are going to pack the paint and dare our shooters to shoot, wouldn't it make more sense to have a better shooter at the point instead of a guy with better ball handling and playmaking?

Sure it would be ideal to get a pg who can shoot, handle, playmake and defend but we aren't very likely to acquire anyone who can do all four so we have to pick and choose, sacrificing some parts.

Since Wade and Lebron are better at handling and playmaking than anyone we are likely to get, that kind of diminishes the impact of those attributes in any potential pg because the ball isn't going to be in their hands anyway and the offense isn't going to be run through them.

I'd rather get a shooter/defender (someone better than chalmers, even better) than a playmaker/ball handler.

I'm not disagreeing that Chalmers being better, wouldn't be better for us. Just that shooting and defending is more important. I'd rather he improves at those things. He can be good enough without getting any better at passing or handling.

We almost won it this year, and Chalmers' passing and handling weren't the reasons why we didn't.

If Chalmers can stop making stupid mistakes, I think he is good as our starting PG.

Too many stupid decisions is the worst attribute of Rio.

Just improve ballhandling, 3pt shooting, and overall consistency. It'll be his fourth year, and I'm hoping the experience in the playoffs will help him become smarter with the ball.

+1.

I'll never forget when he threw up the running half court shot in the middle of the game (I think the Cavs or Bulls in '10?) because he thought the ref blew the whistle. He's so frustrating at times.

Pretty sure there was also a game against the celtics where he inbounded the ball funny resulting in a turn over and us losing or maybe I'm just imagining thing .

I am sure something like that happened with us and the celtics though, i blew a fuse during that game
