Roland Lazenby goes in on Jim Buss

Post#1 » by dockingsched » Wed Nov 2, 2011 1:01 am

within the last hour:

For 3 years I said Jim Buss was out to get Phil Jackson. People laughed at the idea.

If you're a Lakers fan and you're not worried about Jim Buss running the team, your first name is probably Pollyanna.

No question that Phil Jackson toyed mentally with Jim Buss. For Phil, it was a game of tiddlywinks.

Question is, what had Jim Buss ever done to earn Phil Jackson's respect?

Will Jim Buss move away from Kobe? Of course. Age will soon dictate that. Question is, will Buss make a smart move away from Kobe? Doubtful.

I don't think Jim Buss is an idiot or a bad person. But he isn't qualified to run the Lakers basketball operations which he's trying to do.

Will we soon see an Occupy Staples Center movement trying to stop Jim Buss, the 1 percenter, from running the Lakers in the ground?

No question Jeanie Buss would be 1 of the greatest owners in NBA history. She'd run the business+let the basketball folks do their jobs

*disclaimer, lazenby has been jackson's mouth piece for quite some time now. anywhoo, nice reminder for all of you that forgot that jim buss runs things now.

Call me Pollyanna then......because I'm not worried one damn red cent about the team. Doc would step back in before he let's the value sink, it's common sense really. Some over think the room too much.

Damn Jim Buss...hires Mr. Potato Head while the whole world was screaming the most perfect fit in Adelman. FFUU I agree with TyCobb.

“There were some things that were said that I won’t really get into,” Shaw said. “It was kind of bashing Phil Jackson, that I just refused to just sit and listen to. And that’s when I said, ‘Hey, I love Phil Jackson. I appreciate everything that we’ve all been able to accomplish under him. We’ve all prospered since he’s been the coach here….

But he was not Jim Buss’ guy. So when it came time to make a change Jim put his stamp on the organization. Not only is Jackson gone, Shaw never had a chance. But it goes deeper than that — 25-year Laker and assistant GM Ronnie Lester is gone. Rudy Garciduenas, the equipment manager since the Showtime era, is gone. Scouts are gone. Anyone considered a Jackson guy is gone.

Scary stuff. We still have an opportunity to win 1, maybe 2 more titles if we do things right. Hopefully Jim doesn't fsck things up.

Dr. Buss is getting old, Deep. I think those days are gone now, as Shaw's quote suggests.

Buss relinquished his day-to-day control a long time ago. That was one of the main reasons West left.

The frustrating thing, as Lazenby noted, is that we have such a prime candidate in house with Jeanie. Classy, smart, experienced, has actually been involved with the franchise for however many years. She's paid her dues many times over. As opposed to Jim, the grown man who has never been photographed without a baseball cap on.

I don't see how Dr. Buss has completely given over the franchise, he still seems to be attending the CBA meetings by himself. He also seemed to have worked hard to get that TV deal done alongside Jeanie and the operations staff.

Jim Buss taking over basketball operations is still tough to swallow though. Him firing all the long time staff and scouts does not bode well either.

after phil jackson, usually failure ensues. so it might take a while to get our bearings back as a team. now . . . there is one gigantic move jim buss can make to keep us in contention. i believe however, the clock is ticking on jim. the fans will absolutely kill him and make him the fall guy should things not turn out the usual LAKER WAY...which is winning of course . . .

now jim cant get fired. but there is GREAT PRESSURE applied by this LAKER fanbase. a very powerful and long reaching globally . . . type of fanbase.

Imagine how Jim would feel if the team fails and shuns Brown, and he had to open the wallet to bring back Phil for that one more run (after his batteries are recharged) to right the ship.

Jerry had to swallow that pill, but boy I think Jum would be livid

Wasn't he the one that hired an alcoholic Rudy T anyways?

He jumped right off the wagon and put Kupchak in the hot seat right when the season ticket holders started to put pressure.

Could be worse. At least he's not like Donald Sterling... yet.
