Picked the wrong winner but that did live up to my(and many others) expectation that this had the chance to be a FOTY candidate and it was just that. 1st round was something else, couldn't believe what I was seeing. Kirkland looked done until the last minute of the round when he turned the tables and beatdown Angulo. What a fight!

Johnson/Bute looked like an exhibition at times and I'm not sure why Johnson thinks this fight was competitive enough to where he thought he won the fight, I gave him 1 round at most.

Outside of a couple major fights (ugh), 2011 has had a bunch of crazy fights. As did 2010 and 2009.

That first round was nuts.

I can't believe how bungled HBO's production was, though. It was so bad. Their audio quality, the lack of audio in the intros and in the corners, and the video quality. It looked like some one-off non-network production from the '90s. A real shame that it had to be such a historic fight.

I don't remember last year being all that good, with the exception of November and December where every week pretty much had a good fight.

2009 was also good but I'd give the edge to 2011 if we are talking the last several years.

I needed to post this to show my respect to Alvarado.

Coming from behind, with his face torn to ****.. and getting the KO. Much respect.

I hate Chavez... I hope he loses. He is a POS, living off his father's name, and the WBC is always nuthugging him.

I've got Manfredo winning. I hope either it's a 12-round beatdown or he KOs the living crap out of him.

Is it wrong for me to still want Erik Morales and Juan Manuel Marquez to fight?

Kind of weird seeing Jimmy Lennon Jr. on HBO.

Hmm...I don't know if I agree with the stoppage. Chavez Jr. threw twenty punches and landed only a handful and it looked like Manfredo was still in it. I'll give Chavez Jr. this...he looked much better than previous fights I've seen him in.

Chavez looked good but then again Manfredo is a club fighter who shouldn't be on HBO.

I expected more from him. Just push himself like he did in the 4th.

Pretty much what I take from Saturday night. I still think a legit top 8 contender in the MW division gives Chavez Jr. some problems. Zbik is the closest opponent he's had to that status and I thought Jr. lost that fight by a close decision.

I don't watch as much boxing as used to, but Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito II is a fight I really, really want to see.

The face off show on HBO where Cotto accuses him of cheating to his face, great stuff.

Are there varying degrees of illegal hand wraps? Who's been caught wearing the worst ones?

Luis Resto, under his trainer Panama Lewis, essentially ended Billy Collins' life by both cutting out padding from his gloves and using the plaster wraps method.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_Lewis

"In 2007, Resto made a tearful apology to Collins-Nile for his role in the scheme. He also admitted that his hand wraps had been soaked in plaster of Paris before the fight. This caused them to harden into plaster casts like those used to set broken bones. The hand wraps were never confiscated and did not figure into the official investigation of the tampering incident. However, the combined effect of the plaster casts and unpadded gloves meant that Resto was effectively striking Collins with rocks.[3] At a 2008 press conference, Resto not only admitted to knowing that Lewis had tampered with the gloves, but had done so at least twice before.[4] The 1983 incident and subsequent aftermath is covered in the HBO-aired documentary Assault in the Ring.[5]"

Man, that makes me feel sick to think of that.

Now I have to watch said doc.

Kind of like the corked bat of boxing.

The doc has a whole bunch of stuff. The Arguello-Pryor incident is included in it.

The difference is that with a corked bat you hit more homeruns... big whop.... loaded gloves exponentially elevates the element of death to the sport.

Panama Lewis is the biggest scumbag of boxing. He still won't admit to what he did. He deserves to live like Resto did after that fight.

Yeah...definitely a Canelo/Broner showcase. I don't see either having much difficulty tonight. Anything about Cintron being this "dangerous" opponent is from several years ago and not 2011, because he's looked like crap this year.

Its kinda depressing to watch to. The guy goes fights as if he's just going through the motions. He's got the power and skills to be a really good fighter but he just doesn't seem to have the heart.
