I'm seeing a trend though of him playing well against smaller shorter guys, but against guys with some weight and muscle on them he seems to have some trouble. I still think for him to be an inside presense in the NBA he's going to have to put some weight on, and even in the NCAA I see him having trouble against guys who know how to use their weight. He's long and athletic though and that will be enough on many nights to make him look amazing. Morehouse obvisouly had nobody that could do anything with anyone on Kentucky, but when Davis went up against Davis in scrimages he had serious trouble. i'm just interested in how he'll do against guys with some weight and muscle, he hasnt been close to being tested yet outside of playing against Jones.

you couldnt have made a more obvious assessment.
yes, davis needs to put on weight. until he does so, he will have trouble with stronger, bulkier players. that doesnt even need to be said. if UK and UCONN were to meet, davis wont be guarding drummond.

I'm just saying alot of his future is going to be directly related to him getting stronger and putting on some weight and developing post moves. Right now he's an amazing physical specimen with some really good skills, he's dangerous. But if he doesnt put on some weight I could easily see him turning into Anthony Randolph with a jumpshot. If he couples a good jump shot with some moves off of a pump fake he could be very good scoring wise like that. Just alot of questions, i want to see what he can do against some big guys. Not trying to knock him though, he's obviously amazingly talented.

he's already a smarter player than anthony randolph will ever be. he also know his limitations and knows how to use his skills within the framework of game action. what makes anthony davis so intriguing isnt just his skill level and physical attributes, it's his feel for the game that sets him apart from the anthony randolphs of the world.
but yeah, him needing to add weight goes without saying.

Why ? A players ceiling is his max potential.... If his max potential is better than KG he is a superstar. Really doesn't seem that far fetched to me

Really? You've been posting here since 2004, and you really don't understand?

I understand that KG is one of the best to ever play the game and that to say any player could be better than him is a huge compliment.

Do I suspect that Davis will be better than KG, no to be honest most prospects never reach their max potential because it takes a certain mental mindset along with a little luck ( injuries, teams, etc,) to be truly elite.

Davis does sound like a guy with incredibly high ceiling and while these comments about him probably are mostly homerism or the usual pre draft hype I don't find them out of touch with reality in respect to his potential.

Hell at one time you could argue D Howard had the potential to be a better Shaq

I liked his mentality on the defensive end in the two games I saw so far, he brings the hustle and mentality of protecting the basket. Also seemed very comfortable bringing the ball up the court. I think he can be a real threat in the fast break.

Here's some of his highlights against Morehouse:

The more I see of Davis, the more I believe he could play SF if need be which is making me really question if I would take him over Barnes.....

BTW if I was Moreshouse I would of forfeited at halftime.

I think he is slightly below KG. Offensively, I want to see him develop a post game. Can he knock down the mid-range as good as KG? I see he is very comfortable in driving and bringing the ball up the court. I like what I saw though. I would like to see him go to Detroit or Washington. Both of those teams would be amazing with this guy. Detroit has a young and promising center in Monroe, and I think Davis and Wall will be an unstoppable force in the East. I think he is a better prospect than Drummond BTW.

Snap, it looks like Anthony Davis has already tacked on a bit of mass:

Look at his arms in comparison to that dunk video earlier in this thread...quite the difference.

While saying he has the potential to be better than KG is just stupid, I will pen him in as the #2 pick in next year's draft. Somebody said he was a boom or bust prospect - I think he's pretty much a sure thing to be an excellent player.

I agree. Davis is very impressive and will be the number two pick. The more I watch Davis, the more he only really reminds me of Garnett because he is skinny and blocks shots.

Regarding that Kentucky v Morehead exhibition...wow! :eek2: That kid runs like a deer, and can really handle the ball.

I'm not sure there is a great NBA comparison for Davis. He looks like he could be similar to Bosh, but a much better defender, passer, and ball handler. He looks like he could be a taller, more athletic Lamar Odom.

Davis may struggle initially in man defense in the post, and probably even in offensive post up situations. However, he will immediately be an elite help defender, and should major impact on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Drummond will probably be picked first, but I wouldn't be surprised if Davis winds up with more championship rings. I'd be super, super happy if the Wizards wound up with Davis. He would pull our basketball IQ way up, and be a major upgrade on offense and defense.

He was quietly really good for the majority of the game, but really started showing flashes as the game went on. Looked very athletic, showed hustle and displayed good basketball IQ. Can't wait to see him against better competition.

He is more athletic than Odom. I cant be factual so I won't make a statement about who's taller.

Davis certainly has the bigger wingspan, regardless of who is taller. Anthony looks like he may lead the NCAA in blocks this year.

In two games this year here are Davis' stats:

56 minutes
37 Pts
16-21 FGA
5-9 FTA
3 AST
16 reb
12 blk
2 stl
5 TO

That is just insane efficiency. I don't think Davis is going to play against a lot of front courts as talented as that of Kansas. Against Davis and Terrence Jones, Thomas Robinson went 5-12 for 11 points, 12 rebounds, 1 block and 5 PF's in 28 minutes.

I can't wait for kentucky v North Carolina on 12/3!
