OT: PSU Sex Scandal and Cover-up
This is the biggest thing to hit college football in a long time. Truly a terrible and disgusting situation. Chicago is the heart of Big Ten country so what are everyone's thoughts?

If I saw someone raping a small child I would beat the living **** out of them. Right then and there. That's the part I don't get.

Re: OT: PSU Sex Scandal and Cover-up
Worst piece of info I've come across so far while reading up on the Penn State scandal has been that Sandusky ran sleepover summer camps as part of his Second Line charity since the early 80's. It's hard to fathom what kind of crap Sandusky did to those kids in the heat of summer and far from apparently the protection necessary to keep them healthy and safe. I hope Joe Paterno's legend isn't ruined but if justice is served, Sandusky gets what is coming to him.

Very Sad......Adult leaders at camps, group outings, etc. should not be alone with an individual kid that is not their own.

Maybe not ruined, but really tainted. Crazy how things can turn at the drop of a dime.

Really? That's not a big paranoid no?
Adults can't be alone with kids at camps now?

I can't believe Paterno is getting as much blame as he is. Granted he should have followed up a lot harder, but he did notify the police and the Athletic Director. Who in turn did nothing. Also the guy who actually SAW it happening is somehow evading any kind of heat whatsoever.

I agree it's a bit paranoid, but on the flip side, what good reason is there for a kid to be in an isolated, remote situation with a relatively unfamiliar adult? It's just asking for problems. I'm not blaming anyone but the molesters, but I wouldn't have my kid (if and when I'm fortunate enough to have one) alone with some adult in a vulnerable situation because I just don't see the upside, whereas there are countless stories to show the downside. Plus, I think it's fair to say that molesters seek out these situations way disproportionately to non-molesters. Most non-molesters are conscious of how private situations with a child can be sensitive and vulnerable and avoid them when possible.
As for me, I think the board of regents or whatever of Penn St. should immediately fire everyone involved, including all those old ass bitch mfers that talked to their daddies and superiors instead of publicly beating, reporting, and shaming this piece of **** sandusky. Anyone who defends people within the organization is missing the entire point. Had it been reported in 1998 on the intial investigation and admission by Sandusky of hugging a child naked in the showers with his gentials touching the child, a bunch of other kids wouldn't have been raped and fondled. Everyone who didn't go straight to the police or FBI deserves to be fired, publicly shamed, and IMO, there should be legal consequences.
I'd like to personally beat every one of them to death - Sandusky, the grad assistant, Paterno, the AD, etc. I know that might be harsh but it's a harsh world and the grand jury report, which I read, is overwhelming evidence against Sandusky. He basically bribed a BUNCH of very vulnerable disadvantaged kids by taking them to games and buying them presents, and then proceeded to rape them. Yes, he raped multiple children and molested many others, and there are eyewitnesses. This was going on chronically for a long time, and a 9th victim came out now that the report is out. Who knows how many there really were?

You sure about that? If so I missed it in the grand jury report. - actually I just reread the section on victim #2 who was the eyewitnessed anal rape victim, and it most definitely says Paterno notified the AD and the AD's assistant the next effing day, whereas it never mentions that he notified the police in that section. Maybe he notified the police about another victim at another time I don't have time to reread the whole thing now. It actually seems possible that Joe may be the one, just possibly, other than Sandusky himself of course who is most to blame, as at some point the account of the grad assistant got turned from anal rape to "inappropriate" behavior. Either way, they should all step down or be fired IMO.

The dude who saw the anal rape not only didn't stop it, he called his daddy first thing. His daddy. His effing daddy. What a pathetic world. Where is Dexter when you need him?

What's worse is his daddy didn't advise his son to call the police or authorities after telling him he saw a grown man **** a child in the showers

It's like a recursive relationship where each step up the ladder of not doing **** about the incidents is as bad or worse than the step below it. The really effed up thing is that the police investigated long ago and some schmuck DA decided not to press charges. If you're gonna not press charges in the face of events like these, you better call Dexter.

Re: OT: PSU Sex Scandal and Cover-up
I hate how my first post in awhile is on this topic, but I am truly shocked and appalled at what has come to light in this investigation. That f*cking sickio Sandusky aside, what makes this even more shocking then most is that Joe Pa has been an icon and a moral compass for an entire generation. He's donated over 4 million dollars and has the library named after him and statues in his honor. And years and years of this abuse and behavior was going on under his nose and he was even told directly about it. All the while the university is trying to cover its ass in because the football program was too profitable to stop. Grated we don't have all the evidence and there is due process. But every second that goes by without comment from Joe Pa or the University President (which is a lot worse in my eyes) the more and more guilty they seem. Finally to have the audacity to have a press conference but to say "hey but lets only talk about football" is just the cherry on top of this $hit sundae. Just blows my mind only of the biggest stories to come out in a long time. A generation defining story.
And what will make you even more sick is if you ready the 23 page or so grand jury they came out with ... makes my stomach craw. As a college student I would be embarrassed to go to Penn State right now.

I have been a BSA adult leader for six years (my son just completed his Eagle Project) on camp outs, hikes, backpacking, meetings and I would never be with a boy alone or not in sight of others. If my son is not with me, the last two scouts have to get out of my the car together. These rules protect both the child and adult.
There is no reason and I have had no reason to be alone with a child in my care.

I can think of many reasons why you might be alone with a child briefly, and I think it's bizarre that people would automatically make that out to be something negative as if: adult + alone + child = child molestation when in fact, probably 99.9999% of the time an adult is alone with a child, this is not happening.
I've been alone with various children more times than I can count [as a dad this strikes me as fairly normal that this would happen], and the idea someone would think "wow he's alone with a kid for 10 minutes, must be molesting them" is so bat crazy that it never crossed my mind.

I would not argue with your numbers. But it only takes one child who is mad, one child off his meds, one child who wants attention to make a big problem for an adult leader. You can take the risk.....I wont. I have been in many extreme conditions with kids......and never needed to be alone.
