Which Kings will surprise this year?

Post#1 » by jazzfan1971 » Wed Nov 9, 2011 9:33 pm

Assuming a season of course.

Who do you see stepping up? Who might be stepping down? Anyone look to be ready to bust out?
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Every board...really?

I will be surprised when I see a game this year.

Demarcus Cousins. I suspect he'll be in better shape and will get more minutes.

Donte. I feel like he's due.

Tyreke Evans will unquestionably become the #1 player from the 2009 draft behind Blake Griffin.

Cousins stepping up wouldn't be a huge surprise. We all kind of expect that to some degree.

Tyreke might surprise some people after the down year he had last year. Still not too optimistic about his jumper, but the floor should be really well spread in comparison to last year.

Otherwise, I don't see anybody really coming out of nowhere. Maybe Donte if anyone, but we're still kind of clogged up on the wings, so that might be tough.

I still think Greene could break out any year.

I don't think he ever will breakout tbh. He has so much to work on.

This was true a couple years ago. I think he is further along than most think.

I think a lot of Donte's problem is his head. He's got all the tools to be a very good role player. During Garcia's first few years, teammates used to say he could not miss in practice but when he got in games, it was a different story. I'm not saying this is a good excuse but I think people forget that these guys are human, and going out in front of thousands of people, playing against the best players in the world can affect your game. Some guys just aren't mentally strong enough to handle that kind of pressure. But I know he can shoot (look at his days at Syracuse and even the Goon Squad Classic), he's athletic as hell, and he's a damn good defender. He's just got to come mentally prepared, and to be honest he may never be able to.

I think that people need to accept him as a poor man's AK47 or Robert Horry. He is never going to be an every night all-star or 20/10/5 kind of guy.

But he can be a key role player and a defensive beast if he works on his CONSISTENCY.

Honestly, I am not sure these guys could surprise me that much in a good or bad way coming into this season. It would take a really wild swing, like Donte going from decent bench player to starting quality or something to really surprise me, and I don't see it happening.

We should expect some surprises with a very young team though, especially since they have made some changes coming into this season. I say that not just in terms of the development (or lack thereof) of the younger players, but also in terms of how all these guys fit and develop together.

Having a truncated preseason won't be a help either. Some of our key guys barely got to know eachother on the court last season thanks to injury and overall youth, and we are going to breaking in a couple of new guys into the rotation.

I guess I could say it would be a surprise to me if this team really gelled and hit the ground running, surpassing my rather modest expectations for this season.

I can't see Greene happening guys, sorry.. it's time us Kings fans give that 6'11 6'11 6'11 dream up.

I would say Tyreke compared to last season will surely proove some doubters wrong.

I gotta say that I have a wierd good feeling about Zeke 2.0, but it's just a hunch - i've never actually watcehd him play enough games to actually base it on anything.

And I agree with the notion that "If westfail allows him - Demarcus Cousins", but again it's more to be expected really i'd say (more on Demarcus part being a beast then on PW being a solid coach)

I think Cousins is going to dominate with his passing this year. Marcus and Jimmer with outside shooting and Evans and Salmons cutting to the hoop without the ball is going to be a great guard rotation. I think DMC is going to step up into the upper echelon of big men this year.

I think it's dependent of how the Kings are going to be run. Is it through Cousins? Or is through Evans? Late season, we saw an offense through Cousins quite a bit and I saw Evans playing off the ball a lot more than usual.

It would be interesting.

My vote goes to JJ Hickson. Mostly because Kings fans do not know much about Hickson and also because based on reports he has been staying in great shape and tearing up whatever games/leagues he has been involved in this summer/lockout. At the end of last season he was putting together monster performances once he and B Scott started seeing eye to eye. Dude is gonna ball.
