Re: Week 10 Thread
Hard to believe that at this late juncture, the Bengals are the #1 seed and the Texans are #2 in the AFC.
Some real strong, important games:
Giants at Niners
Steelers at Bengals
Saints at Falcons
Lions at Bears
Pats at Jets
even the Thursday nighter has major playoff ramifications.
Trying to do the power ranking this week is just futile. I might just bag it.

Reading Ridsons .10 - I was shaking my head at the Winslow comments. Not having him on my team made me forget how much he pushes off. I swear he gets called for PI once a game. haha good memories - I'd still take him on my team over our crappy receivers.

Oakland can only blame themselves with the way they've played. They had a decent lead on Denver last Sunday and should be sitting in first place right now. Oh well, I guess we'll see what occurs this Thursday.

Re: Week 10 Thread
If you told me at the beginning of September that the winner of the Giants/Niners game would be in the driver's seat for the #2 seed, I would have laughed in your face.
I honestly don't know how the Giants are making this season work. They have been the most consistently inconsistent team in the NFL this season, IMHO, and they've managed to make it to 6-2. The one thing that worries me, is that in the Coughlin era the Giants have the tendency to turn a 180 once they hit the halfway point of the season. This means they'll either start to become completely cohesive and dominate games throughout, or fall behind and stay behind.
One way or another, Eli and Co. are making me tear my hair out every f*cking Sunday.

Re: Week 10 Thread
Anyone got my Colts beating the Jags this week for their 1st win? I think its possible, but very unlikely...especially with Clark out, but he has been a bum this year anyway

Well unless they're planning on going 0-16, they have the best chance of getting a win against this team at home. The Jags offense is one of the worst in the league but they do have a solid defense. They're going to need some good field position, maybe some turnovers, a couple balls bouncing their way etc...
They see the jags twice, panthers next week, then the pats, ravens, titans, texans, and finally the 2nd game with the jags. I think the Titans won't let one slip to the Colts and I think Cam Newton can carry the Panthers over the Colts. a win is going to have to come against the Jags.

just out of curiosity, you as a colts fan, would you rather the Colts go 0-16 to ensure the #1 pick ahead of the Dolphins thus drafting Andrew Luck? or would you rather win as much games as possible and just see where it goes?

As a fan it is impossible for me to watch a game and hope my team loses, I just cant do it. With that said if winning 1-2 games costs us the #1 pick I dont think it is worth it at this point. 1-2 wins wont save the season or really any credibility for this season. To be honest it is so embarrassing to watch these guys lay eggs every week though, especially after I have been spoiled for a decade by excellence.

talk about spoiled! you guys have the potential to go from Peyton Manning, a 1st ballot hall of famer and a superbowl winner to Andrew Luck who many believes will be the next big thing. If Luck proves all the hype its like the 49ers with Montana to Young or the Packers with Favre to Rodgers. I think this horrible season will soon be forgotten if not appreciated as a blessing in disguise.

Re: Week 10 Thread
They have a lot deeper problems than the QB. Dwight Freeney looks done. Their OL is terrible. Their secondary is worse. They missed on two 1st round picks in a row, Donald Brown and Jerry Hughes, and their last four drafts are atrocious. 4 drafts have produced:
Anthony Gonzalez, 5 receptions in the last 3 years. That's all they have from 2007.
Pierre Garcon, an inconsistent #2 wideout
Philip Wheeler, the #4 LB in a 4-3 defense for almost all his career
Jacob Tamme, backup tight end on IR and won't be back
Mike Pollak, a below-average starting guard now their backup center. That's 2008.
Curtis Painter, backup QB that will go back to that role after this year
Pat McAfee, adequate kicker
Austin Collie, oft-injured #4 wideout. If he's #3 then slide Gonzalez to #4, take your pick.
Fili Moala, average starting DT
Jerraud Powers, a decent dime corner in way over his head as their de facto #1
Donald Brown, will not get a second contract with the Colts. That's 2009.
Jerry Hughes, still a healthy scratch even on this putrid defense
Pat Angerer, a solid starting LB with good potential going forward
Brody Eldridge, backup TE with 11 receptions
Kavell Conner, coming into his own as a starting LB. That's 2010. The other four picks are already out of the league.
Too early to judge 2011.
So in their four most recent drafts before this year, they have:
backup QB
backup RB, maybe
backup TE and 3rd string TE
#2 wide receiver that is an inconsistent deep threat
#3 and #4 wideouts with major injury issues
two starting LBs and a backup LB
solid rotational run-stuffing DT that averages a tackle a game and has yet to make a TFL in 2+ years
functional reserve corner, maybe their nickel back down the road.
Solid kicker
Not one impact player. Not one difference maker except perhaps Garcon and Angerer.
Even with Andrew Luck, this team is going to be BAD going forward. Even if Luck is immediately Peyton Manning in his prime they will be lucky to go 6-10 next year. Sorry bleeding blue, but you know I have personally lived thru some terrible times in Indy and came out okay...

Re: Week 10 Thread
Great breakdown Icness and you are right about all of it. This years draft class appears to be a success, but it is too early to tell, plus injuries have kept Castonzo and Nevis out the majority of the year (but I think they both looked starter quality) and ijalana is on IR. Carter is solid, but I dont see anything terribly special about him and it is hard to judge rucker bc the whole secondary is awful minus Bethea.
This years draft has to be a homerun or we are in seriously trouble going forward. The Colts will be in a great position to get some top notch guys, which will be great considering they have only had 2 picks lower than 23 since 2000.
On a different note Irsays antics are really wearing on me, that guy is off the reservation.

Icness you're right about everything in that colts post... but when you draft a franchise QB you start all over. You take the leaders of your team or players who still can produce but are older and trade them for picks or younger guys with potential. IMO the colts need to trade Manning (sucks i know) Freeney and reggie wayne for picks and guys with potential and start all over.
BUT they need to get a new, good coach first.

Re: Week 10 Thread
I think the Colts will trade down a few spots with a team like the Dolphins or Browns and try and win with Manning right now and develop Tannehill from a second rounder. I don't think they will be a superbowl team but if you draft a Clayborne and Kuechly for example with those picks I think they easily win their division.
I'm sure they could get both Browns first rounders and a little extra next year for Luck or the Dolphins first and second rounders with a first and second next year.

That was my exact thought. He definitely seems comfortable in the offense. On the radio broadcast Esiason is raving about how well Palmer is reading the defense and making the correct adjustments.
